"...but if you are able also to become free, rather do that." 1 Cor 7:21b (NASB) This rather obscure Bible verse (taken only slightly out of context) describes my efforts over the last 10-20 years to help "break the matrix" in many areas of life. First and foremost, I need to be true to God rather than any part of the culture. "Christianity is not a plug-in, it's an operating system" (see Mark 12:28-31). Can I be true to God while working for a big corporation, sending my children to government-run schools, going to a highly institutionalized church, paying exhorbitant and invasive taxes, or even being a political prisoner? Certainly. And I am called to do so. However, freedom from each of these things (and the responsibility that comes with it) is much better. I was challenged many years ago to seriously consider whether I REALLY believed that "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." and what that should mean with respect to both the day to day, minute to minute choices I make, but also the patterns of life I follow. I found that, the more I studied the Scripture to figure out God's design for a man of God's life, the more steps I made to change the way I spend my days. Right now, I need to spend it w/ my youngest son... so I'll finish writing this later.
