With a little nudge from a Cato letter, I came to the LP from the Republican "right" in the late 1990s when I witnessed them squander their chance to do what they'd been saying all my life (limited govt, balanced budget, line item veto, term limits, de-federalization of abortion to states, etc.).
The use of govt force (military, behavior modification through taxation, bedroom laws, etc.) to do what individual citizens cannot do is unethical. Therefore, criminalizing private, non-violent behavior is unjustified.
