My name is Dave Brownlow,

and I am running for the United States Senate because the professional politicians we hired to do the job have failed us.

Decades of compromise has left us with “two” political parties that have become so similar, it is nearly impossible to distinguish one from the other.  With virtually no opposing power left in Washington, we are continually victimized by a lawless, one-party system that is driving us into moral and fiscal bankruptcy.

Our Constitution authorizes the federal government to perform a very specific - and very limited - set of functions, such as; providing for the common defense of the states, securing our borders, protecting our inalienable rights - and very little else!

While the nation's law-making powers were delegated primarily to the state legislatures, our real government exists within the people, working in our communities, families and churches. We have turned that design completely upside down, and have given near total power to the federal government. The experiment has failed, and …

It is time to take that power back!

If elected, my commitment is to follow the Constitution and only vote to approve legislation that falls under those clearly defined mandates. This means a foreign policy of peace, commerce, and non-intervention with our world neighbors, and a policy of individual liberty here at home. I do not feel it is too far a stretch to call our Bill of Rights the living embodiment of the command to "love your neighbor as yourself."

We have given the career politicians many decades to figure this out. They have failed us.  We gave the Democrats control of Congress in 2006 because they promised to end the war in Iraq.  Well, here we are two years later and the Democrats just voted - once again - to fully fund that nation-wrecking calamity well into next year. Are we ever going to learn?

Those we entrusted to lead us have brought us to the brink of disaster.  Our economy is in a shambles, the value of our dollar is at historic lows, our debt is exploding, our manufacturing base is heading overseas, our borders have become a virtual sieve, and our military is bogged down in two simultaneous, unconstitutional wars - while trying to defend an empire (also unconstitutional) that spans across 130 countries.  Something has to change.

I do not pretend to know how 300 million Americans should educate, medicate, feed or house themselves – or that I know how to manage our fourteen trillion dollar economy. However, I will argue that anyone who claims they do, is either living in a fantasy world, or is just not dealing with us honestly. Maybe we should go back to the basics - like electing leaders who will obey the law for a change, and let the states and the people deal with those issues.

Does a pro-life, anti-war conservative, who respects the right of everyone to live their own lives the way they choose, have a chance of becoming Oregon's next Senator? I believe that is a real possibility given the very unusual political landscape we see unfolding before us.

I invite you to visit my campaign site at www.davebrownlow.com. I have tried to outline a set of positions that reflects a commitment to honor my oath of office – which is to defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic, (particularly the domestic ones!) while protecting the life and liberty of all Americans.

You may not agree with me on every issue, but you will definitely know where I stand. Proposing minor tweaks to policies that have been failing for decades is not the solution. Our country is in serious trouble. It is time we start telling each other the truth.
