Many people do not like for

Many people do not like for websites to make that choice for them when it is such a simple thing for anyone to make that choice for themselves by learning how to operate their browser.

With Internet Explorer, simply right click on a link and choose "Open in New Window" or "Open in New Tab". With Firefox, right click and choose "Open Link in New Window".

Although each browser may word it slightly differently, virtually all browsers that I know of offer options like this.

It's that simple.

Good suggestion for third-party linking...

I don't think it's a matter of education... at least not for everyone.

This is Website navigation 101. When a user accesses a website, they accept whatever means of navigation is thrown at them, for better or worse (both within and outside of that particular domain).

When a business creates a website, they have to create "stickiness" for all of their users much the same way this forum, blogs, YouTube, etc thrive. Think about how many BTM members are scouring YouTube every day to post content...

That "stickiness" gets lost as soon as a user is sent to a third-party, unaffiliated website from that site owned by the business in the same window. Many times in the past, while navigating a site, I don't think to Shift+Click a link, and I end up on another site (within the original window), completely losing track of where I am... I close the browser window and BAM... Now, I not only didn't stick on the site, but I might not even remember the URL (I have my Firefox delete my history without notification when my browser closes).

Oh, BTW, a Shift+Click within IE/FireFox works, as does a Middle Scroll Wheel click on mice (assuming mouse is setup with default options).
