This is not an endorsement of any presidential candidate. It's
explanatory, and scary - but makes sense.
This is from the guy who had his finger on the nuclear trigger for
three years as head of our defense and response complex buried under
Cheyenne Mountain at Colorado Springs . He was the only person who
could initiate a nuclear attack after advising the sitting president
of a missile launch by our enemies and our need to respond. No
political or civilian type in the US had more knowledge about
day-to-day military actions around the world.
Everyone should find quiet time to read this.
John R. (Jack) Farrington Major General, USAF (Retired)
Middle East Imperative
BY: JIM CASH, Brig. Gen., USAF, Ret.
I recently wrote about the war in Iraq and the larger war against
radical Islam, eliciting a number of responses. Let me try and put
this conflict in proper perspective.
Understand, the current battle we are engaged in is much bigger than
just Iraq . What happens in the next year will affect this country
and how our kids and grand kids live throughout their lifetime, and
beyond. Radical Islam has been attacking the West since the seventh
century. They have been defeated in the past and decimated to the
point of taking hundreds of years to recover. But they can never be
totally defeated. Their birth rates are so far beyond civilized
world rates that in time they recover and attempt to dominate again.
There are eight terror-sponsoring countries that make up the grand
threat to the West. Two , Saudi Arabia and Pakistan , just need firm
pressure from the West to make major reforms. They need to decide
who they are really going to support and commit to that support That
answer is simple. They both will support who they think will hang in
there until the end, and win. We are not sending very good signals
in that direction right now, thanks to the Democrats.
The other six, Afghanistan , Iraq , Iran , Syria , North Korea and
Libya will require regime change or a major policy shift. Now, let's
look more closely.
Afghanistan and Iraq have both had regime changes, but are being
fueled by outsiders from Syria and Iran . We have scared Gaddafi's
pants off, and he has given up his quest for nuclear weapons, so I
don't think Libya is now a threat.
North Korea (the non-Islamic threat) can be handled diplomatically
by buying them off. They are starving. That leaves Syria and Iran .
Syria is like a frightened puppy. Without the support of Iran they
will join the stronger side. So where does that leave us? Sooner or
later, we are going to be forced to confront Iran , and it better be
before they gain nuclear capability
In 1989 I served as a Command Director inside the Cheyenne Mountain
complex located in Colorado Springs , Colorado for almost three
years My job there was to observe (through classified means) every
missile shot anywhere in the world and assess if it was a threat to
the US or Canada . If any shot was threatening to either nation I
had only minutes to advise the President, as he had only minutes to
respond.
I watched Iran and Iraq shoot missiles at each other every day, and
all day, for months. They killed hundreds of thousands of their
people. Know why? They were fighting for control of the Middle East
and that enormous oil supply.
At that time, they were preoccupied with their internal problems and
could not care less about toppling the west. Oil prices were fairly
stable and we could not see an immediate threat. Well, the worst
part of what we have done as a nation in Iraq is to do away with the
military capability of one of those nations. Now, Iran has a clear
field to dominate the Middle East, since Iraq is no longer a threat
to them. They have turned their attention to the only other threat
to their dominance, they are convinced they will win, because the US
is so divided, and the Democrats (who now control Congress and may
control the Presidency in 2008) have openly said we are pulling out.
Do you have any idea what will happen if the entire Middle East
turns their support to Iran , which they will obviously do if we
pull out? It is not the price of oil we will have to worry about.
Oil WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE to this country at any price. I personally
would vote for any presidential candidate who did what JFK did with
the space program; declare a goal to bring this country to total
energy independence in a decade.
Yes, it is about oil. The economy in this country will totally die
if that Middle East supply is cut off right now. It will not be a
recession. It will be a depression that will make 1929 look like the
'good-old-days'. The bottom line here is simple. If Iran is forced
to fall in line, the fighting in Iraq will end over night, and the
nightmare will be over.
One way or another, Iran must be forced to join modern times and the
global community. It may mean a real war - if so, now is the time,
before we face a nuclear Iran with the capacity to destroy Israel
and begin a new ice age.
I urge you to read the book 'END GAME' by two of our best Middle
East experts, true American patriots and retired military generals,
Paul Vallely and Tom McInerney They are our finest, and totally
honest in their assessment of why victory in the Middle East is so
important, and how it can be won. Proceeds for the book go directly
to memorial fund for our fallen soldiers who served the country
during the war on terror. You can find that book by going to the
Internet through Stand-up America at or
On the other hand, we have several very angry retired generals
today, who evidently have not achieved their lofty goals, and insist
on ranting and raving about the war. They are wrong, and doing the
country great harm by giving a certain political party reason to use
them as experts to back their anti-war claims.
You may be one of those who believe nothing could ever be terrible
enough to support our going to war. If that is the case I should
stop here, as that level of thinking approaches mental disability in
this day and age. It is right up there with alien abductions and
high altitude seeding through government aircraft contrails. I
helped produced those contrails for almost 30 years, and I can
assure you we were not seeding the atmosphere. The human race is a
war-like population, and if a country is not willing to protect
itself, it deserves the consequences. Nuff-said!!!
Now, my last comments will get to the nerve. They will be on
politics. I am not a Republican. And, George Bush has made enough
mistakes as President to insure my feelings about that for the rest
of my life. However, the Democratic Party has moved so far left,
they have made me support those farther to the right. I am a
conservative who totally supports the Constitution of this country.
The only difference between the United States and the South
American, third world, dictator infested and ever-changing South
American governments, is our US Constitution.
This Republic (note I did not say Democracy) is the longest standing
the world has ever known, but it is vulnerable. It would take so
little to change it through economic upheaval. There was a time when
politicians could disagree, but still work together. We are past
that time, and that is the initial step toward the downfall of our
form of government. I think that many view Bush-hating as payback
time. The Republicans hated the Clintons and now the Democrats hate
Bush. So, both parties are putting their hate toward willingness to
do anything for political dominance to include lying and always
taking the opposite stand just for the sake of being opposed.
JUST HOW GOOD IS THAT FOR OUR COUNTRY? In my lifetime, after serving
in uniform for Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter,
Reagan, and Bush I have a pretty good feel for which party supported
our military, and what military life was like under each of their
terms. And, let me assure you that times were best under the
Republicans.
Service under Jimmy Carter was devastating for all branches of the
military. And, Ronald Reagan was truly a salvation. You can choose
to listen to enriched newscasters, and foolish people like John
Murtha (he is no war hero), Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Michael Moore,
Jane Fonda , Harry Reid, Russ Feingold, Hillary Clinton, Ted
Kennedy, and on-and-on to include the true fools in Hollywood if you
like. If you do, your conclusions will be totally wrong.
The reason that I write, appear on radio talk shows, and do
everything I can to denounce those people is simple. THEY ARE
PUTTING THEIR THIRST FOR POLITICAL POWER AND QUEST FOR VICTORY IN
2008 ABOVE WHAT IS BEST FOR THIS COUNTRY. I cannot abide that.
Pelosi clearly defied the Logan Act by going to Syria, which should
have lead to imprisonment of three years and a heavy fine.
Jane Fonda did more to prolong the Vietnam War longer than any other
human being (as acknowledged by Ho Chi Minh in his writing before he
died). She truly should have been indicted for treason, along with
her radical husband, Tom Hayden, and forced to pay the consequences.
This country has started to soften by not enforcing its laws, which
is another indication of a Republic about to fall. All Democrats,
along with the Hollywood elite, are sending us headlong into a total
defeat in the Middle East, which will finally give Iran total
dominance in the region. A lack of oil in the near future will be
the final straw that dooms this Republic. However, if we refuse to
let this happen and really get serious about an energy self-
sufficiency program, this can be avoided. I am afraid, however, that
we are going in the opposite direction.
If we elect Hillary Clinton and a Democrat-controlled congress, and
they carry through with allowing Iran to take control of the Middle
East, continue to refuse development of nuclear energy, refuse to
allow drilling for new oil, and continue to do nothing but oppose
everything Bush, it will be over in terms of what we view as the
good life in the USA.
Now, do I think that all who do not support the war are un-American
... of course not. They just do not understand the importance of
total victory in that region.
Another failure of George Bush is his inability to explain to the
American people why we are there, and why we MUST win. By the way,
it is not a war. It is martial law that is under attack by Iranian
and Syrian outside influences, and there is a difference.
So, what do I believe? What is the bottom line? I will simply say
that the Democratic Party has fielded the foulest, power hungry,
anti-country, self-absorbed group of individuals that I have
observed in my lifetime. Our educational system is partially to
blame for allowing the mass of America to be taken in by this group.
To win wars, you must put boots on the ground. When you put boots on
the ground, soldiers are going to die. A President must make the war
decision wisely, and insure that the cause is right before using his
last political option. However, CONTROLLING IRAN AND DEMOCRATIZING
THE MIDDLE EAST IS THE ONLY CHOICE IF WE ARE HELL- BENT ON DEPENDING
ON THEM FOR OUR FUTURE ENERGY NEEDS.

If this plan is taken seriously, what are China and Russia going to do? Sit by idly while the mideast oil fields are dominated by the U.S. neocons? I don't think so.
In a nuclear age, war is no longer an option. Other means for conflict resolution must be found. If they cannot be found, then the human race has become too maladative, and cannot survive.
Though the military perspective is clear, sensible, concise, and intelligent, in the final analysis, it is a script that would only pour more gasoline on an already out of control fire.

This guy is a joke. Anyone who believes what he is saying in light of the current Iraq war should have their head examined. "Controlling Iran and Democratizing the Middle East is our only choice" - I seriously doubt it. If we elect Hillary we'll be plunged into a depression that will make 1929 look cheery - I hope not. Let me guess, John McCain just might save us?
Of course this is a political endorsement! He doesn't say I'm pro-Republican but he says he's anti-Democrat.
Well the only other choice is Republican and the only Republican is McCain.
that prudent civilian leaders should make our strategic decisions, letting military leaders carry them out. Now, if we could only elect some prudent civilian leaders....

Can anybody still say, "Domino Theory".
This guy thinks Iran and the middle east are going to team up to keep oil out of the US. That is a silly conspiracy theory. If this were true and Bush and Cheney disapprove then why did they come into office exclaiming htat oil prices were too low in 2000!? If Islamic fundamentalist are a huge threat to us then why have we been funding the radicalizing wahabist royal jerks in Saudi Arabia for decades?
Old man Farrington would have us vote for whichever president is most apt to borrow money against the american workforce and spend it on the military industrial complex regardless of the circumstances. He states it clearly. He has no moral problems trying to enslave our children with higher and higher taxes to pay for current expenditures to him and his friends.
This is the same type of guy who will tell us China and Russia are huge emerging threats that we need to build up our military for, yet he is advocating continuing a policy that has already led us to borrow a total of 2 TRILLION dollars from Russia, China and SAUDI ARABIA!! How is this protecting us fiscally?! Doesn't this leave us in a week bargaining position with our potential enemies? why doesn't he address this?
Mr Farrington tells us that we need to elect a president who will "organize" our country to achieve a centrally planned goal of energy independence. You know you sound like a MARXIST Mr. Farrington? Sellers of oil need the money as badley as we need the oil, if the oil should start to dry up then prices will rise and we will have no choice but to find alternatives..we don't need a Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler or FDR to "re-organize" our economy for us thank you!
If anything we need a president to help free up our economy, to break the chains of payroll taxes, income taxes and federal debt load to break up the idiocracy that is now at fault for dumbing down the american population through our education system. You do correctly point out this problem in education and credit it with making the democratic slate of candidates possible, however your shortisghtedness does not allow you to see that the republicans are just as much at fault! Who supported "no Child Left Behind"? who loves the federal department of education? sure there are plenty of wholesome republicans who recognize the problems and promote homeschooling or "choice", but look at eh big wigs int he republican party...Henry Kissinger, Richard Haas, Bush 1 & 2,"Rockefeller" republicans. They are 100% behind the implementation of federal childhood conditioning camps. They want us dumebr so we won't ask questions. They want yes men who can operate a taser and/or pay taxes and that is about it.
I think the US is not as heavily dependent on middle eastern oil as is sometimes thought. Following are our sources of crude oil:
thousand barrels per day
Domestic USA 5103
Imports
CANADA 1727
SAUDI ARABIA 1535
MEXICO 1232
NIGERIA 1138
VENEZUELA 858
IRAQ 773
ANGOLA 375
ALGERIA 232
ECUADOR 231
BRAZIL 188
KUWAIT 178
COLOMBIA 120
RUSSIA 108
CHAD 101
UNITED KINGDOM 95
total 13994
Data sources
Domestic http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_crd_crpdn_adc_mbblpd_a.htm
Imports http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_l...
If I calculate the percentage from each source it works out like this:
Domestic USA 36.47%
Imports
CANADA 12.34
SAUDI ARABIA 10.97
MEXICO 8.80
NIGERIA 8.13
VENEZUELA 6.13
IRAQ 5.52
ANGOLA 2.68
ALGERIA 1.66
ECUADOR 1.65
BRAZIL 1.34
KUWAIT 1.27
COLOMBIA 0.86
RUSSIA 0.77
CHAD 0.72
UNITED KINGDOM 0.68
total 100.00
So if we lost Iraq we would only lose about 6% of our oil supply. We don’t import from Iran so there is no loss there. If we also lost the other middle eastern countries, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, the total loss would be 18%. That would hurt but I don’t think it would shut us down.
Also Saudi Arabia is mainly Sunni and Iraq is mainly Shiite. Those two sects don’t like each other much so I don’t think Saudi Arabia would just roll over and allow themselves to be taken over by Iran.
But a better path to energy independence is along the lines of what Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison proposed; to develop our own sources of oil which are currently tied up for environmental reasons. http://www.mysanantonio.com/opinion/stories/MYSA.051908.OPED.hutchisonco...
If we don't buy from Iran and Irag, the oil just goes to the market and somebody else buys it. But if somebody else buys it that frees up other oil for us to buy. Net loss of supply =0, but we may pay more for it.
And I do believe that the Saudi's could finance a pretty stiff resistance to takeover.
I think you are right on both counts.
This is a very good article. While I certainly do not agree at all with some of the more hawkish statements or that we need to shove American style governments down peoples throats; the fact that the Islamist/Islamofascist movements are a real and growing threat should be unquestioned.
The Revolution and Ron Paul could have stormed to the presidency this election cycle if Dr. Paul would have been more of a hawk. So many of the conservative talking heads are all about what Ron Paul stands for but have been unable to bring themselves to support Dr. Paul because of his so called isolationism many have used it is a source of ridcule. How absurd.
But after initially having my own questions about Dr. Paul's foreign policy, I have come to realize that it is his strength. But how would a non-interventionalist foreign policy work to combat Islamic extremism? Tell the truth. Tell the truth about Saudi Arabia and their appeasement and educational promotion of Wahhabism that prompted middle class Saudis to come here and attack us. Tell the truth about the UN and its addiction to multiculturalism and how that has enabled the Sudan to commit genocide. Tell the truth about Pakistan and its complicity in challenging the Taliban and most likely providing cover for Al Queda, etc. Concurrently, we as a people must reach out to moderates in the Muslim world. Enlist their support to reform Islam to reject that notion of violent Jihad and the concept and practice of dihmmitude.

President Bush and the necons have failed, dismally, to do anything serious to stop the spread of the seeds of Islamic terrorism. Indeed they have spread ample fertilizer on the seeds of death...The tragedy is, as discussed in the article above, that the true nature of the threat that faces the west has been lost to the deep hatred for Bush. Moreover, the democrats, Carter hugging hezballoah leaders and Pelosi going to Syria, shows the complete disregard and lack of seriousness they see in the problem and an unfettered willingness to undercut the operational structure of our country.
I have become rather demoralized by BTM and some of my fellow Ron Paul supporters. From the content and forum threads around here it seems that there is just hate for Bush and the neocons, as opposed to a balanced and objective view of the world around us.
Yo
You've correctly identified the political advantage of being a tough on terrism hawk, but you need to take it a step further and think of Al Qaeda as analogous to a drug cartel as it pertains to the drug war.

The thing I find most 'sobering' about the article is just how easily Americans have been drawn into the concept of 'DEMOCRATIZING' or medeling in the affairs of other nations.
Actions have conquences and it is better not to take sides in the disputes of others.
Why do we have 50 thousand Saudi studentes inroled in Colleges throughout this country. We saw what a handfull were capabable of on 9/11. We have a right and an obligation to keep trouble out of our country.
I could care less if country A, B, C or D is ruled by a king, queen or court jester. It isn't worth one drop of American blood interfering in such matters.
"Controlling Iran and democratizing the Middle East is the only choice if we are hell bent on depending on them for our future energy needs."
That's why McCain isn't fit for the Presidency.
That's like China coming over and chopping down all timber in the Pacific Northwest because they don't have any firewood.
It is a disgrace for the meaning of the word sovereign nation. And it is a blow to international law.
I do wish these people live out their lives well in their retirement homes. And may this country take it's country back and stay out of illegal wars brought on by brainwashing of the military and chickenhawks alike.
It is like China coming over here and seducing us into selling them all of our woodlands.
Democrazation of the middle east starts with the falacy that a democratic arab majority would realize that their future is brighter with western ways. But they don't care about the reality. They care about what they believe will make their lives better.
Now on to steriotypes.
