Idea(s) I have for how BreakTheMatrix should feature user-made content.
Posted by OReich on Fri, 05/16/2008 - 02:55 in I want to first say that you guys have done an outstanding job, and as far as I know everything I've outlined here has been said before or considered before. Still, I think it's a little unique, so why not get it out, and if people like it maybe the guys at the top will look at it and think about it also.
I would ask users to make 10 minute (or 15, 20, etc.) and each would feature BTM-provided advertising. For instance, whenever a 10 minute production is made, it should be uploaded into three files of 4 minutes, 3 minutes, and 3 minutes long (whatever makes sense for viewing/advertising), and BTM will give it random advertising of about a minute long (each commercial break a minute long with 2 or 3 ads). BTM can even make it so that higher-paid advertising spots go to higher-rated or higher-viewed shows, or advertising will be paid for based on how much its viewed (so how much the program is viewed). Even though shows are produced at the creator's pace, it'll still be once or twice a week probably, like podcasts, and they'll be put on a user-created content section of BreakTheMatrix.com.
This will give BTM money through advertising, and eventually I'm sure the people who are designing the site will come up with the best formats for presenting programs: how to categorize them, how to feature ones that get good user reviews, etc. Also, I think it'll be exciting to see what people will produce once they have the mission that BTM gives them to creatively report news and editorialize, and with the platform provided by BTM (one place to get home-made news in a place where its presented and organized as such). Remember that tons of people personally produce political commentary podcasts, and some of them are really good. I'm sure these very people will be excited to produce a video-format program.
