Posted by deadfoot on Thu, 05/15/2008 - 13:52 in I ran across this little story on the Web. Of course, I compleatly disagree with the author. But the comments are rather heartning.

They gave such a short explanation of his reasoning for voting this way: yes, it interferes with the affairs of another country, but they don't go into his knowledge of what happens when Congress makes statements like these, the negative effects of foreign aid to the target country, and the negative consequences of foreign intervention in general for our country. When one man votes alone among 400+, your very first thought should be: this man knows something, I should read more about his reasoning on this issue. Instead, it looks like for now we're content to think, "Huh, Ron Paul must really hate those people for some reason..." How can we get these people to read some books?
I think it's because we see it every day and don't give it a second thought...
When we're in a long line at a grocery store, and we see a woman standing alone in a line, but we see no cashier, our inclination is to believe that this woman is a "kook", there's no cashier... But once the cashier is done tying her shoes, flips on her light and says "I can help the next person", then all of a sudden, this woman is pure genius because she patiently waited for the line to open because she believed, and in fact, knew it would open. What do we do? We scramble out of our line to jump into that one.
It sounds very simplistic, but sometimes it really is that simple... Unfortunately, we're a nation of fast-food and instant gratification; and unless we truly understand where our gratifications lie, it will never change... Hence, the message of revolution. It's a slow process, but as the country sees that even Obama's message of "hope and change" will change nothing, they will eventually see that light flip on - and come checkout in our line.
