Lol.
how you making out with that code snippet? i'm still waiting.
where the hell is that music coming from?
it's an "embed" tag that this dude Nick included in one of his posts. it's annoying but at least it's a good song.
Okay, Mr. Computer Genius, I'm growing weary of indulging your ignorance. It's easy to see in all your posts, throughout these forums, that you believe you have been blessed with a superior intellect. However, it is only your delusive belief that is apparent. A demonstrably superior intellect is not detectable.
Have you heard of Windows Media Player?
Now, in response to your request that I post a snippet of code for you to look at, I believe it would be a waste of my time, but I could easily embed any of the following file types (.asf, .asx, .wm, .wma, .wax, .wmv, and .wvx) using only the embed tag. I could further add a number of control parameters within the embed tag. Do you understand what that means? I don't think so. You could avoid substantial embarassment if you would make an effort to know what your talking about before you try and instruct and belittle others.
God bless,
Nick

what psychology 101 book have you taken this out of?
> Have you heard of Windows Media Player?
i might have. what does this have to do with you invoking an activeX control through the embed tag? but do go on...
> Now, in response to your request that I post a snippet of code for you to look at, I believe it would be a waste of my time
in response to my request to prove something, you have decided not to prove it. very well put. that is by the way the correct answer. not proving something that cannot be done.
> but I could easily embed any of the following file types (.asf, .asx, .wm, .wma, .wax, .wmv, and .wvx) using only the embed tag.
this is what i'm taking such great pains to explain to you. you can play a media file, either video or audio with the embed tag, but nothing else. in fact, you can disable activex, java, vbscript and javascript in your browser and still be able to use the embed tag.
> I could further add a number of control parameters within the embed tag.
like volume control, looping, etc. i know. go on....
> Do you understand what that means?
i'm trying, but it's very very hard.
> I don't think so. You could avoid substantial embarassment if you would make an effort to know what your talking about before you try and instruct and belittle others.
if you feel belittled by my request for that code snippet you haven't provided to prove your point then there's nothing i can do about that.
instead of whining about yours (and others') hurt feelings by my comments, please post that code snippet with the embed tag invoking an arbitrary activeX control and i will respectfully follow it up with a comment giving you the greatest of praises so as to make you feel special.
i'll be waiting for the code example now. thank you.
NO U!
You dont have a clue what an ActiveX control is if you dont think they can be invoked through the embed tag. You're totally out of your league, my friend. YOU schooling ME is now, officially a joke.
God bless,
Nick

you cannot be serious with this. you've decided to deny reality?
do me a favour and post a code snippet of how you would invoke an activeX control with the embed tag. I'm dying to see this.
here, you will find all the reference you need to realize you cannot give me this example code that i'm asking you to submit: http://devedge-temp.mozilla.org/library/manuals/1998/htmlguide/tags14.ht...
don't be afraid to read and think before you speak. you wouldn't find yourself in this kind of situation if you did about two minutes of reading.
so I'll be waiting now for this example you'll show me on how to use an activeX control through the embed tag. thank you.
Excuse me, but , as a computer security expert, haven't you notice that they already allow the invocation of ActiveX controls through the embed tag ( I tried to make it obvious)? Come on Gidget, get with the program! I thought you were going to school me with your computer security expertise.
God bless,
Nick

you should read up on the difference between the 'embed' tag and the 'object' tag. there's a big one. for instance, you can't invoke an activex control though the embed tag. so, i would again refer you to google 'activex exploit' and hit the first link that comes up in the search results. it's a quick read, about two minutes and you should get what i'm trying so hopelessly to explain to you myself.
you should also do some quick research on the difference between 'embed' tag and 'object' tag in html. it will all become apparent to you if you're willing to put in some time to educate yourself a little bit.
how is that for schooling you?
there's a reason for it. can you think of what it is?
Probably, princess, but I'd much rather hear it straight from the computer security professional first. Let's have all the details. Surely you don't still think it is to prevent people from invoking ActiveX controls as you suggested in your first post...do you?
God bless,
Nick

you just did.

google "activex exploit" and go to the first link, that'll give you the exact idea of why forums don't allow activex embedding. assuming you didn't already know.
> Surely you don't still think it is to prevent people from invoking ActiveX controls as you suggested in your first post...do you?
that is exactly what the reason is.
Ahhh...ya caught me. I never figured on anyone being smart enough to see through my little ploy. Mwuahahahaha...I'm sending this one out to swarelis, but I'm gonna hide all those nefarious ActiveX controls I've just unleashed on the unsuspecting.
Seriously, dude, your paranoia is showing. All I wanted to do was post an RSS feed reader widget.
I would suggest you configure your browser to disable all activeX controls, java, pictures and sounds, but then you wouldn't have a very pleasant browsing experience. Would you?
If you don't have any software that scans while you surf, you need to get some.
God bless,
Nick

incidentally i work in the computer security field, so, no, it's not paranoia, it's common sense.
you may want to think why they don't allow embedding the object tag right now. there's a reason for it. can you think of what it is?
right, so you can invoke ActiveX controls on unsuspecting users. Nice try. Not too subtle, but a nice try nonetheless.
I would strongly suggest not to allow the IMG tag as that can be easily abused and frequently used to exploit unsuspecting end users with malicious images.
