UPDATE: Bernanke is worried! HR 1207 to Audit the Federal Reserve is Gaining Momentum FAST!

Posted by shelly on Thu, 06/11/2009 - 7:39pm in

HR 1207 up to 213 co-sponsors! Time to hit the companion bill, S. 604, which has NO co-sponsors. Read updated post here: http://www.breakthematrix.com/node/36442

An impromptu HR 1207 Call-A-Thon kicked off last week on twitter after I saw my rep (Kratovil) STILL hadn't co-sponsored the bill. Much to my delight, he co-sponsored first thing the next morning!! We're keeping it going this week over on twitter, but I'm starting this post so you guys can add your non-compliant reps to the target list.

We'll hit a few a day, and see if we can get the 28 11 5 we need for a majority! Thanks guys!!

BREAKING NEWS: Fed Would Be Shut Down If It Were Audited, Expert Says:
http://www.cnbc.com//id/31204170

The Latest from Ron Paul from 6/10 on Freedom Watch:

WRITE YOUR REPS HERE:
https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

WHAT IS HR 1207 & WHY DO WE WANT TO AUDIT THE FED?

Great article from the Mises institute:
The Federal Reserve System is accountable to no one; it has no budget; it is subject to no audit; and no Congressional committee knows of, or can truly supervise, its operations. The Federal Reserve, virtually in total control of the nation's vital monetary system, is accountable to nobody -- and this strange situation, if acknowledged at all, is invariably trumpeted as a virtue.
Read it here: http://blog.mises.org/archives/010082.asp

A little more background:
In 1950 the law was changed to exempt the federal reserve from *any* auditing procedures. So, the Fed can use our tax dollars however they wish, without any obligation whatsoever to tell us what they're doing.

HR 1207 seeks to repeal that portion of the code, so when we ask questions, they HAVE to answer.

Why is this important?

As just one example, right now the fed is refusing to give a public accounting of the trillions in recent taxpayer backed loans. Just look at the 700 billion in TARP funds that congress appropriated and the Fed refused to talk about -- we now know a portion of it ended up going to bonuses for the AIG execs.

We deserve to know how our tax dollars are being spent, and allowing the Federal Reserve to remain out of control and shrouded in secrecy *clearly* allows for abuse.

HR 1207 is our chance to put an end to this.

So, what can you do to help? Go here and sign the petition to urge your congressman to co-sponsor the bill:

This is a very legitimate concern he has, CD rates have been in free fall ever since this recession started.

I share your concerns

I share your concerns regarding the need for transparency in our country's economic policy. Congress is expected to consider comprehensive legislation to reform our regulation of financial markets, and the role of the Federal Reserve in our economy will be an integral part of this debate. I will keep your concerns firmly in mind as I investigate this issue further.

gary ackerman

please add gary ackerman from ny to callathon. a good number of ny reps are on board but my rep mr ackerman does not appear to be interested in financial transparency. maybe something going on with him. maybe he has some friends at the fed. who knows? but a little heat on the phone lines may make him change his mind.

Please fax, write, and call ! Emails don't work !

That is great that you have been calling. Emails do not work. They just send back "thank you" responses.

I have been told that calling, writing, faxing are the best ways.

Don't give up. Get some friends over your house and have a fax, call, and letter writing party.

I am going to do that. They need to be barraged.

Also any group get together or organized demos. Ask everyone to bring their cells and call right from the meeting/demonstration.

Suggest visits to the Reps. home offices. Enough people go down and leave 100's of letters with the office staff, even if they aren't in it may help.

We are going to make it. We just need to keep going. The win is ours!!!!

My Rep is already a co-sponsor, can I call other reps?

Rep. Paul Brown of Georgia's 10th is already a co-sponsor, I've been told in the past that the offices of congress will redirect you back to your own congressman if you try to contact them. Is that true? What else can we do?

A nonresponder (so far...)

My rep, Robert Brady, has still not responded after at least a dozen faxes and calls from both me and my wife. Absurd because I've actually received 5-6 email replies from other congressmen I've faxed about this and I dont even live in their district! Would welcome some help getting this guy on board.

James Clyburn Needs to be CALLED REPEATEDLY. He is NON Compliant

Call and urge him to SPONSOR HR 1207. And if the person on the other end of the phone tells you Clyburn is a Party Whip and does not usually sponsor bills, ask them what whipped him from standing up for We The People. Tell him there is a line in the sand and he must choose between the Global Elite Banksters and multinational Corporations and WE THE PEOPLE. Call him at his local offices AND in the District of Criminals.
