Help Pass HR 1207 - Ron Paul's Bill to Audit the Federal Reserve!

Posted by shelly on Wed, 03/25/2009 - 11:56am in

Hi guys - quick update on Ron Paul's "Audit the Fed" Bill (HR 1207): It is now in committee!!

WRITE YOUR REPS HERE:
https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

A little background:
In 1950 the law was changed to exempt the federal reserve from *any* auditing procedures. So, the Fed can use our tax dollars however they wish, without any obligation whatsoever to tell us what they're doing.

HR 1207 seeks to repeal that portion of the code, so when we ask questions, they HAVE to answer.

Why is this important?

As just one example, right now the fed is refusing to give a public accounting of the trillions in recent taxpayer backed loans. Just look at the 700 billion in TARP funds that congress appropriated and the Fed refused to talk about -- we now know a portion of it ended up going to bonuses for the AIG execs.

We deserve to know how our tax dollars are being spent, and allowing the Federal Reserve to remain out of control and shrouded in secrecy *clearly* allows for abuse.

HR 1207 is our chance to put an end to this.

The good news is that this bill is actually gaining momentum - we were up to 44 co-sponsors as of this morning, which is pretty phenomenal. The american people are starting to demand more oversight and push for transparency, and that's exactly what we need to get things turned around.

The bad news is that some very powerful special interests *really* don't want this to happen, so we're up against a pretty major hurdle.

So, what can you do to help? Go here and sign the petition to urge your congressman to co-sponsor the bill:
http://www.campaignforliberty.com/campaigns/auditthefed.php

UPDATE 4/1 - up to 50 co-sponsors!!

You are absolutely correct

You are absolutely correct if you believe that writing letters to our congressional representatives will not accomplish anything. However calling talk shows, posting to blogs, emailing everyone you know, posting comments to your own web sites and others, emailing the media in mass, carrying signs on the streets of America, involving yourself with peaceful demonstrations, handing out Citizens Jury Rule books and the Bill of Rights and our Constitution to family and citizens everywhere you go, engaging in conversations at every opportunity, copying and giving out “The Obama Deception” by Alex Jones. how to make him miss you | Watch District 9 Online | Watch Inglourious Basterds Online | Watch Shorts Online | prolapsed hemorroids

I wouldn't expect a press

I wouldn't expect a press release saying "THIS BILL IS DEAD. ITS FAMILY IS DEAD. IT'S BURNED TO THE GROUND. WE'RE GOING TO GO THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND PISS ON ITS ASHES adobe training." More along the lines of Barney Frank saying to someone over lunch "I hope you're not thinking this Bill will ever get out of committee extreme networks training..."

Or for that matter, the simple fact that Frank hasn't signed on as a cosponsor could be speaking loudly and clearly to those in the know adobe certification.

Does writing our representives work?

You are absolutely correct if you believe that writing letters to our congressional representatives will not accomplish anything. However calling talk shows, posting to blogs, emailing everyone you know, posting comments to your own web sites and others, emailing the media in mass, carrying signs on the streets of America, involving yourself with peaceful demonstrations, handing out Citizens Jury Rule books and the Bill of Rights and our Constitution to family and citizens everywhere you go, engaging in conversations at every opportunity, copying and giving out “The Obama Deception” by Alex Jones (http://www.prisonplanet.tv) to everyone you meet, wearing your “End The FED tee shirts, Posting to “youtube”, posting to “yourspace” hisspace therespace and allspaces, handing out books you find informative, plastering your vehicles with bumper stickers of the best info sites you subscribe to, going to public meeting and standing up for the Constitution, and writing to your congressional representatives WILL accomplish more than you can ever imagine. Doesn’t anyone remember the MIAC report and the effect our peaceful rage accomplished? Don’t be ignorant and lazy, everything America stands (stood) for and every freedom given to us by our creator depends on us not allowing ourselves to be the sheep pressed to the cliffs edge by the criminal fascist who have raped our Constitution and us since 1913. Stop whining and do something, many somethings. “United we stand, Divided we fall”. This isn’t a minor stumble if we fail in our due diligence this time around, and we will not like the next phase.

Hey,

I like writing too! If this doesn't pass though (not to be a pessimist!) can we admit that letter writing doesn't work - or do we wait till the next one to sharpen our well worn pencils?

It's worked for the 44

It's worked for the 44 co-sponsoring reps!

I'd be happy to help in other ways if you have ideas on non-writing methods for applying pressure and/or making changes. This petition is the only thing I've seen so far that allows us to take action, but if you can come up with other ways - I'm all ears ;)

I don't think

that writing letters accomplishes the desired effect. I think this because the Senators who voted for the bailout admitted receiving letters and phone calls in the amount of "1000 to 1" oppossing the bailout but they voted for it anyway.

Politicians are just servants working for their employers and I really think it's a bit naive at this point to imagine that their employers belong to the public realm.

It only works for the 44 reps if the Fed gets audited. That is the goal right? So at this point in time the 44 reps have yet to achieve their stated goal. In my opinion I think it's a distraction.

I wish I had a better solution. Writing a letter is better than nothing I imagine but I think the results are more noticeable in the writer than the recipient.

I'm not sure what the solution is. I know the founding fathers fought a revolutionary war first, and wrote philosophical letters - like the constitution- after they defeated the British army. But that seems like a mythic tale from a far away place, long, long ago..........

I hear ya - I was

I hear ya - I was disappointed with the stimulus debacle (to say the least), but at least my representatives will know they are failing to represent me, and because of that, I will be campaigning against them next time around. If enough of us do that... who knows, eh? Maybe they'll listen better next time?
