Guys, please do something. No one will ever hang around here for poasting and such like this. I really want to be here but this slowness is unbearable. If you don't fix it we're doomed.

It's not slow for me at all, now the dailypaul site, that's slow!
Just to clarify...
I just did some testing. I loaded the site from Chicago, San Diego, Seattle, Texas, Washington D.C. and the UK. After loading the site (from a remote desktop session) I noticed nothing slow.
I will do this again during peak times but I would venture to say this problem is likely at your end. If you'd like us to try to help we can but you're going to need to be open to that.

Well I was going to say: If you're using either
or
You should give Opera Ver: 9.27 a try (By far, the fastest, most secure and least resource hungry internet browser), but that doesn't seem to be your problem.
I think we need a wider audience to chime in here and lend some perspective.
BTW, I gave you "thumbs up" on your posts. This is exactly the sort of thing that needs to be addressed while still in Beta testing mode!
God bless,
Nick

Wow, the latest version of Opera is waaaay faster than the Firefox I've been using for a while, thanks for mentioning it!

As for the troubleshooting, thanks but I already know my setup is imperfect. I'm on a company lappy so I can't really go around reconfiguring things. I don't need troubleshooting to use any other site though. Google is lightening fast, Scout.com is pretty fast, other message boards I frequent are pretty fast. This site just takes longer to use which is not good for me. Maybe "unbearable" is a bit harsh and maybe I did employ a bit of hyperbole, but I'm just trying to make a point here. Any slowness at all will deter use. Once someone new comes on, if they have any reservations at all about the nature of the content, a little delay is all the justification they need to give up on the site and never return. To me fast, easy and friendly are paramount. Especially now while this place is new and gaining users. My whole point it that these things can and should be improved based on my experiences here.
To the person who gave me negative rep for posting my experince in the beta section: niiiice.
TS, I can't help if you don't give me any information... None of our testing on a wide range of computers, OS's, browsers, etc. has yielded anything like you are describing.
If anyone else is experincing this issue, please post some information:
1. What OS are you using?
2. What browser and version?
3. Are other SIMILAR sites slow (ie MySpace, MSN.com - comparing us to google is comparing apples to oranges)
4. Are other applications slow on your computer (for example, MS Word, Email, etc.)?
5. What anti-virus do you use?
6. Try the site using a different browser
7. Try the site using a different computer
Thanks,
Shelly
I don't know anything about website design. Let's get that out of the way up front. But I do know about my own personal convenience. This site has not served me well in the convenience category. Every page takes longer to load than any other site I use regularly, which has made it unlikely I will spend much time here unless changed. My machine is a slow piece of crap and I know this, but whose isn't? I travel alot and I am usually on slow networks, but again this is normal. If I am going to invest any amount of my time to build an online persona here I need it to be fast and easy otherwise I'll just say the hell with it and go have a beer somewhere and continue building my actual real life persoa instead. I mean we are all busy and most of us only have a few minutes to jump in and check things out. I suppose you know all this.
I don't know what kind of testing you are doing, but I'd say grab an outdated laptop and go sit on an airport wifi somewhere and try to setup a profile, download pics, post comments, read content. I guarantee it is not fast and easy. Sorry to be so negative but it is what it is and I hope you guys can fix it. Especially if I'm going to invest in the IPO. Which I was planning on doing...
Quoting TarSeal: My machine is a slow piece of crap and I know this, but whose isn't?
Sitting on a 2.6ghz dual core with with 2gig ram.
Needless to say I don't consider my workstation a piece of crap :-)
I have.. however... noticed slowdowns as well. 95% of the time though it seems to be my end, not the site. Internet speed/latency is dependent on a lot of things, you may simply getting a bad connection, or something in between your connection and the BTM servers is going haywire.
In other words, what I'm trying to say is, what you are experiencing may not be what everyone else is experiencing. Yes, that sucks, I know. I'm dealing with it, however, as what is being done on this site is absolutely crucial for the future of Freedom in America- and indeed the world.
Hi TarSeal - Please provide some info (you can pm me or post again here with the info I requested above) so I can help troubleshoot the problem. I'd say at least 50% of this site was developed using airport, hotel, internet cafe, and other fairly slow internet connections, and while it may not have been lighting-fast under those conditions, it's far from being unbearable. It's very likely there is something on your computer that is causing the problem.
If you have the opportunity, could you visit the site on a different computer, and let me know if you experience the same problems? Also, you could try using a different browser - if you're using Internet Explorer, try Firefox.
Shelly
I have not experienced any perceptible "slowness" specific to this site, TarSeal, but I have a very stable high-speed connection. Maybe, I'm just not able to detect it.

Site seems to run right nearly all the time, but for some reason I had a slow running visit last evening like the poster. Don't know why-- there were only 200 or so online; no big load; it just went slow for a time. R
Our monitoring shows excellent response times for the site... Could you provide some info and we'll see if we can identify something specific to your computer or network that is causing the latency?
What operating system and web browser do you use? Have you done a speed test to determine the speed of your internet connection? Are other sites you visit slow, or is it just BTM? Have you tried accessing BTM from a different computer?
Thanks!
Shelly
hmmm. I haven't experienced any slowdown yet. Where are you experiencing slowdown? comments? stories? or the whole site in general?
