OK,... this is my hope: repost here.
I am a (nearly) 17 year veteran Peace Officer. I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution and I take that very seriously. If you care to check out my views on anything you may do so on the Daily Paul site,... I will not bother trying to prove my Ron Paul Worthiness at this point.
I am often amazed at the reaction toward my profession in these discussions. Mostly because there seems no shortage of very valid reasons to distrust or hate Law Enforcement Officers. The stupid, immoral and illegal things done by some cops makes me sick and I have done my part to cull from our ranks those who would do such things ... HOWEVER,
The view held by some that ALL cops (or all of any profession) are evil and the enemy costs our cause some very valuable assets. I hold that in any group of say, 100 cops, 10% are very good people... 10% should never have been in Law Enforcement in the first place and the remaining 80% are fairly decent folks but are just doing what they think is 'right'... the problem is they don't often think for themselves. They are good students and can follow the crowd well.
My point is this, we can turn a large portion of the 80%-ers to our side with the right sort of information and effort. If you treat them like the enemy, they will oblige you and be your enemy. Remember, these are the ones who believe they are doing the right thing. You need to show them BY EXAMPLE what the TRULY RIGHT THING IS!
Maybe try something like this...
"Excuse me, officer (nice and friendly), can I speak with you for a minute?"
A 'NO' answer is your cue to say "OK, Sorry for bothering you and thank you for defending our Constitution. Our country needs you." (Yes I know some are ready to puke at this point... hang with me)
Providing you get a favorable response to your first question,... say something along the lines of...
"I just wanted to thank you for your personal efforts in protecting our liberties and defending the Constitution. Not many people today even think about their liberty and you are out here every day with that huge responsibility on you shoulders... I know that can't be easy and I wanted you to know how much we appreciate it."
Let them guide the conversation from there... you may only be able to plant the seed at this point... you don't often get to reap the harvest 20 seconds after you planted the seed, but someone may have done so along time ago, and you get to see the payoff.
I've told some cops (who don't know me at that point) "It's great to have such support for Dr Ron Paul from Law Enforcement circles. Of course it only makes sense that Peace Officers would support the ideas of Personal Liberty and Personal Responsibility and his Pro-Constitution views. After all, you swore to uphold the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic... not too many people have to do that to get their jobs... Other than military and politicians... not too sure how many politicians understand that as well as our military and police personal do."
If you get any question about Ron Paul... you know where to go from there...
If you just get a thank you... don't push it... thank them again and leave. Let the next one of us take them to the next step.
There is a remnant out there. A percentage of GOOD... TRULY GOOD liberty minded folks that we can salvage from the matrix that is their known world. You need to have the knack... the ART of confronting wrong thinking without coming off as confrontational. If we can get a few in our world to think right, the impact they can have is amazing... I know, I am living it.
One of my favorite quotes is from George Bernard Shaw:
"Liberty means responsibility, that is why most men dread it."
We want liberty, that means we have the responsibility of working, educating, coaxing people in all walks of life to the cause of liberty.... WORST of all, we have to LIVE as good examples to all... that is very hard.
Very wordy, I am sorry... BE BLESSED.

I 'm what at first glance would appear to be an outlaw biker. Yet I have many friends who are in Law Enforcement. Many of those friends are also Ron Paul supporters or sympathizers. Those who are just sympathizers express their frustration at seeing a good man like Paul treated like he is in the media and in his own party.
A significant few of these see martial law coming and have chosen to stand with the people when the time comes. They are truly awake. There is one who hasn't retired yet, although eligible, because he feels he can do more to help from the inside until "Bug Out Day" comes. His plan is to lead our caravan through the check points in uniform on our way to sanctuary. Then he will simply never return.
I feel as WyoWill does. Be friendly and tactful, open and honest. When you find a gem such as WyoWill befriend them and bring them into your circle.
The same is true of our military patriots. The truth is ya' never know who is truly with us and you will be very surprised who will be against you when the chips are down.

It is a difficult balance to be sure. But I am very grateful for a friend who opened my eyes to much of what is going on. He introduced me to this old doctor whom I had never heard of. The gentleman was running for president and I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
In short, I never knew my world view had a place to call home. Dr Paul put words to my thoughts and motivation in my heart. There are many out there who's only crime is that they have no idea what is really happening out there and worse yet, they have no idea they could do anything about it if they did.
I heard the quote to sum it up; "I am neither for nor against apathy"
Spend the time investing in people. My buddy who opened my eyes says that of all the people he has every tried to inform and educate, I was the only one who ever listened. I am very happy he never gave up.
Don't give up.

I know many good officers as well. The problem is that Nation wide the Bad apples are growing, and they are breaking the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is happening and has been happening in small towns and big cities alike. America is turning into a police state, that is going to be ruled by dictators. They are allowing felons into the Military and Law enforcement. Marshal Law is coming, the line will be drawn in the sand. That day will separate the men from the boys within the government.
I hope to see you on the right side.... Because we are coming for the enemy traitors that are everywhere in our government today, and its going to get bad unless the American people lay down and roll over, which very well could happen....

I will be a mess... made only worse if folks like you and I won't bother to look past the surface. Find the Remnant regardless of the profession and then move together as allies.

I agree...
