Man arrested for selling raw milk
Posted by Chrispy on Sat, 04/26/2008 - 19:26 inI'm still not clear on how it is acceptable that the government can tell us what we can or cannot eat and drink. Raw (unprocessed, straight from the cow) milk has been part of human diets for far longer than the pasteurized stuff has, yet since sellers of raw milk might *gasp* get in the way of Big Dairy, it's not "allowed" in many states.
This is a great (and concerning!) article:

If we let them tell us what we can and cannot eat, what is next?

the FDA has gone over to the dark side. They are no longer there to protect the health of the people but to promote the financial interests of the corporations that support them.
I wish I could buy raw milk! May have to get a couple of cows, but with the price of hay and grain now, it would be very expensive milk!

I'm not aware of any place in Canada that sells raw milk. Organic milk is available but it's been homogenized and pasteurized so the quality is questionable.
Certainly, we can't rely on government watchdogs like the FDA to protect us. They've recently given approval to allow rice implanted with a human gene to be marketed. They'll likely justify the sale of this franken-food with the recent food shortages and a pledge to end starvation. Wasn't the push to begin marketing GMO crops decades ago supposed to do that?
As if that's not bizarre enough, meat and dairy from cloned animals will soon be on the butcher's shelves, without any requirement for labeling. If there was ever a reason to give up flesh food, or at least go organic, this is it folks.

This is a travesty and will not stop until we unite against it. The food production system in the US needs a champion.
I love the Weston A Price Foundation. Join and support this group as a first step towards taking back our food supply, one successful locally supported family farm at a time.

Luckily in Maine I can by raw milk at the local health food store!!!
We've been drinking raw milk for well over a decade, there is nothing like it. It is REAL FOOD!
I think it should be a "buyer beware" type of thing. You get to know your supplier and you buy from whom you trust. It is legal in Texas, but they don't make it easy!
In our county you can't even sell homemade baked goods or perpared food items at the Farmer's Market if you don't have a commercial kitchen and a permit from the health department.
Crazy!
