In our issue about music in advertising, we discussed the value of a good jingle. Most of us know from our own experience how a good song or jingle can get stuck in your head, sometimes to the point of insanity. A speech we don’t remember; a good song, we remember and spread around. Politicians and their campaigners have long recognized the value of a good song to cement a message about a candidate in the public's mind and the result is a long history of political songs in America. With that said, the existence of political music extends far beyond the obvious. And obviously because the American’s high interest in music and entertainment is disclosed to everybody, its music industry is in bloom until now. If you're looking for entertainment debt relief, you could look into Lollapalooza 2009.

Satire was always used by a people who were under the thumbs of their rulers. Why should America be any different? You can't just come out and point in their face and call them traitors to the Republic. If they didn't grab you right then and there they would come after you in any variety of ways. Ask some of the former Congressmen and Senators who have been attacked by their guard dog agencies like the IRS or the CIA or the FBI. Heck, ask Sonny Bono when you see him next if he still wants to open up a can of worms next session of Congress and investigate 9/11 again!
Things tend to happen to people who attack them full frontal. When they're smiling after you call them a murderer or a crook in open public - they are not smiling at what you've accused them of - they are smiling because they know what is going to happen to you.
So satire fulfills its role, as it always has, of a carefully planned attack in a humorous light so, at least, the elite will be laughing as they pronounce your sentence.

My secret? Have nothing and that way they can steal nothing from you. It's not very profitable but at least, it's not worth their while to come after me.

Perhaps I can add another perspective to a debate that I actually encourage and think is important.

After all, HOW we approach these issues is just as important as what issues we approach to begin wtih.

For my 2 cents, attacks should be kept to a minimum. But as a guy who has been doing stand up for around 6 years, I wouldn't classify humor as an attack per se.

Humor and satire's purpose IS in fact to ridicule. To attack. To list grievances. BUT to do so in a more palpable manner. To make a statement of truth, but adding a bit of sugar to the medicine.

Just as one would lovingly joke to their spouse about not keeping the kitchen tidy, we are poking Washington in the ribs and saying "Hey darlin, get your ass in gear."

And while I shiver at the idea of actually calling Hillary, John, or Barack "Darlin" at any point, I will gladly lend my voice to any future projects that will give them a playful nudge.

I don't recall ever stating satire was created by the media. I merely stated my opinion based on experience in the broadcasting world and similarities with BTM posts. If you like the video thats great, I'm not trying to sway you otherwise. My impression of BTM and its message is bit different which influences my response to the video.

I don't see how this video is different from anything else played on mainstream. Its the same tactic, "if you don't like their message, attack them personally." In my belief, it seems like a waste of time, very adolescent and distractive to positive change.

This was the original message of BTM. It is very powerful. Additionally many people are here because of the example, courage and message of Ron Paul. He was a true defender of truth and I don't remember him ever attacking or making fun of someone who's beliefs he didn't share. He simply "spoke truth to power."
Though there have been many inspiring and educational posts and videos, I have seen a degradation of information since BTM began. True we have a different message....but are we promoting it in the same way mainstream promotes its agenda? Does that really make us any different?

We're off to a great start, but we're going to need tens of thousands more hits to make a real mark. Please continue to let your friends know about the Republocrat theme song. Let's see if we can reach 50,000 hits by this weekend!
