It seems that I receive this very question every day while I am campaigning, whether it be "James, why are you taking on an incumbent in the primary?" or "How do you expect to out-conservative Dean Heller?" or "Why run for Congress? Why not State Assembly or State Senate or a County Position?".
All are good, honest questions, and my answer is almost always the same...our biggest problem and the place where good people, honest people, can have the most effect is in the US Congress. Why not me? So, I don't have the experience of a career politician...I believe that this is the biggest and most positive aspect of my campaign!! I think we should get rid of all the career politicians that are owned by big business, contributors, and everyone except those that helped put them where they are now. If you read the list of contributors to my opponent's campaign, it reads as a who's who list of the wealthiest Nevadans, including Steve Wynn. The Federal Government and most who serve within are outright owned and are enslaved to a combination of money and power.
I'm just an average citizen, not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, looking at everything that is going on in this country and deciding to do something about it!!! Angry, maybe a little bit, but I have never been one who can just sit on his butt while something that I feel I can do something about is happening, and not at least volunteer my services. I'm the guy who will give my last dollar to someone who seems like they might need it more.
I can go into a long dissertation on the issues, but if you are reading this you are likely already someone who thinks very much like me. You can get a complete breakdown on where I stand at www.JamesSmack.com, but if you are a lover of significantly less Federal intrusion and regulation, someone who says it is time for us to get out of Iraq...and for that matter Korea, Germany, and everywhere else we have a military base, if you believe in the eventual elimination of the Income Tax, if you believe there must be stronger policy to reduce illegal immigration, and you feel our gun rights are not something that should be weakened to make a political deal...WELCOME ABOARD!!! You may stop here, you have found your candidate!!!
I have had the opportunity to meet with some state officials, most of whom have been very receptive to me. I tell all of them the same thing, "I am not going anywhere. I plan on winning this race, but if I do not, this will not be the last time you see me in Nevada politics." I am here to stay!!!
As I stated earlier in this submission, I am not a wealthy man. I still work my day job while running for Congress, something many candidates don't need to do. I would appreciate your support, whether it be to financially support my campaign at "FreedomSlate08", any contribution you can make before then, or even something as simple as getting my name out through myspace bulletins, emails to friends in Nevada, or attending one of my campaign events (a full calendar will be coming soon, but we have a big event on July 6th in Las Vegas at Sunset Park from 4-8PM for anyone who needs an excuse to come to Vegas).
As Harrison Ford, playing Han Solo in "The Empire Strikes Back" so deftly stated why flying through an asteroid field: "Never Tell me the Odds!!"
