Though Canadians don’t much like the designation, Canada is sometimes called “The 51st State” of the United States. As the U.S.’s largest trading partner, our neighbors to the north have a lot riding on the 2008 presidential election.

A group of young people in Canada offer their perspective on U.S./Canadian relations and the upcoming election.

Detroit, Ontario?

You say that like it's an insult, David. I know a lot of Detroiters who are already talking about moving to Windsor, Ontario if McCain wins next week.

Universal health care? $3000 college tuition per year? Stronger banks during a financial crisis?

It might cost a little more than a six pack (assuming the Pistons and Red Wings move with the city), but you might find some takers for your offer around these parts.

Not interested.

Annexing Canada into the US would add 30 million socialists over here. I have no interest in doing that. However I would entertain the idea of allowing Canada to annex Detroit into Ontario. We could give them a great price. We give them Detroit in exchange for a sixpack of LaBatts Blue.
