The bats in our neighborhood

The bats in our neighborhood are falling down on the job. I see quite a few of them in the evenings right around sundown. But we still have tons of skeeters too. I wish they would quit joy-riding and start catching mosquitos.

LOL!

Maybe the colony isn't large enough yet? I've heard that you have to have quite the colony of bats to be able to entirely rid yourself of mosquitoes? Who knows! LOL

The Mayans

Hello Miss Green!

Your show on the Mayans looks VERY interesting! I wondered if you have read Jared Diamond's "Collapse." He talks about the Mayans and other civilizations that collapsed, and attributes every one to exhaustion of their natural resources. He is a great historian (and he's actually a botanist by trade!).

The other book of his that I have read, "Guns, Germs, and Steel" is the greatest history book I have ever read, hands down. Recommendations to everyone!

Hey!

I have not yet read "The Collapse", although I think I should now! :)
I have always wondered if the Mayans hit their "carrying capacity" and wiped themselves out. I asked my Cultural Geography professor about it, and she thought it was more due to a natural disaster, or war.

After reading his book, what do you believe?

Thanks for the book suggestions!

Nice lineup!

I dont know how many people would be willing to attract bats (a lot of people get freaked out by them and seek to scare them away) but hey, better than getting bit by skeeters or dousing oneself in chemicals. The show on the Mayan people seems really interesting. Was watching and reading some stuff on that culture: Wow.

So much more advanced than that Kelvin fella you have on fridays. lol.
