The Second Amendment and the time we might need to use it

If ever there was a time to doubt the intention of our forefathers in writing the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, now would indeed not be the time. The wording also nearly suggests an obligation to do such. I use the word "suggests" as it certainly does not command as England did so a few hundred years prior as there was no police or military force in place at that time. It also differs from England that is was the right of the people to have the ability to defend themselves if the government became oppressive. With all the events happening recently, I find our forefathers wisdom and foresight to be all the more insightful, and not just with this particular amendment. Of course they were less removed from an oppressive government than you or I am even today even though events are occurring that are driving us closer to such each and every day.

"Those who do no learn from history are doomed to repeat it" -Unknown. The only way that I disagree with this popular double entendre is that history is not simply being repeated, it is being worsened by doing the same thing over and over again. Other societies came close, but none accomplished what the United States did after they threw off the shackles of their oppressors. Of course, almost immediately, those shackles were being attempted to be placed back on us (slowly but surely) by new masters. We have been fortunate in our 226 years of this great country that for a great portion of that period we had men that stood in the gap; republicans, democrats, federalists and whigs alike. But recently, for the greater part, political lines have been greatly blurred by the big two so that it is hard to tell the difference between the two. The first time I read the term "Republicrat" I had to chuckle as well as feel envious as I did not come up with the term.

With the current legislation that is on the table, despite majority outcry to vote contrary, it is evident that if this country ever was "of the people, for the people and by the people" it certainly is not now. I will play a bit of "devil's advocate" here and state that if the current rescue plan (read bailout) was the only measure that would possibly save this great country from final failure, and the people who put me in office told me they did not want this measure then I am compelled to vote against it because my job is to be the representative of those people. Is that not what the American Revolution was all about? Why is this "rescue plan" of Wall Street still being discussed? Why are the only 2 of 6 presidential candidates that are actually for this bailout the only ones discussed in the main stream media? Freedom of the Press comes with just as much responsibility as any of the other rights that are supposed to be protected by the Constitution.

But wait, it gets better... this same country has also approved combat troops to be available to provide police action on our own soil, as well as allowed (in my opinion definitely) one of our greatest enemies (China, after allowing them to have such a hold on us in the first place) to be allowed to deploy their own police forces if necessary to enforce their property rights in the event of a chinese held mortgage foreclosure. For what? To make sure they continue to buy our debt.

So, if you are still wondering why I am posting all of this under the second amendment, perhaps you should just go ahead and learn Mandarin, get used to giving all of your hard earnings to the government and hoping that they will take care of you.
