So, Who Do You Hate?

Wayne Dyer makes a great point in some of his excellent books that we are told who to hate by our government. You can take it as far back as the French during the French and Indian Wars. It’s reflected in today’s banners against Muslim extremists [read that as almost any Muslim by the far right].

Let’s do a little scenario. Bear with me. Imagine if a terrorist had tried to assassinate George Bush in 2001, the day of the 9/11 attacks. Imagine also that same day that a woman terrorist had rushed into the House of Representatives with four of her companions, unfurled a flag from a Muslim nation over the visitor galleries, and then proceeded to shoot up the place, wounding five congressmen. Okay, what part of nuclear attack would you like to discuss? What horrific actions would we have taken far beyond those since 9/11? We would surely be told who to hate and who to kill.

With your indulgence, now let me offer this extended scenario. As 2011 rolls around would we start asking sports figures from that horrible terrorist country that supported this attack to play on our soccer teams, our basketball teams, our baseball teams and of course boxing? Would we thrill at their action on our golf courses and tennis courts? Would they be sought out to serve in our military and warmly welcomed to move to the United States?

You see, it’s all about perspective. Some of the most heinous terrorist acts against the United States, prior to the two attacks on the Twin Towers and the destruction of the Murrah Federal Building were perpetrated by those damn dangerous Puerto Rican separatists. Here are the facts:

• 1950, President Truman’s assassination attempt by Puerto Rican terrorist Andrés Figueroa Cordero
• 1954, U.S. House of Representatives shot up by small group of Puerto Rican separatists resulting in five wounded U.S. congressmen

We forget how history works and how we are manipulated to the interests of the powerful and elite. To the best of my knowledge, there are no great nuclear pot holes in San Juan, or garrisons of U.S. soldiers interrogating suspected terrorists. So, who do you hate?
