Personal Lives...It means just that
Nothing is more preposterously rude than media who expose the private lives of the wives, children, and other relatives of political candidates. Unless it is relevant (like, I married an axe murderer or a mafia hit man) who the hell's business is it to poke around someone's private life? The candidate is running for office, not their family.
I think the responsible thing to do is to write and call the sponsor of every news show every time they start digging into things like a family member's arrest record, drug use, or pregnancy...and just let the sponsors know, if that is what you think is important, I'm not buying your products anymore. And I mean for any candidate of any party being gutted by a senseless and careless media. It is just disgusting.
And the public cries out, "Why can't sound, smart people run for office?" Well, what are you demanding? Jesus to run for Governor? Even he drove the pig farmers property off a cliff, traveled with a prostitute (according to the Papal version), and roughed up the bankers outside the Jewish Temple. Since when did we get so craven in our views that we think our leaders should be saints?
For my money, I want a candidate who can manage my tax dollars to their best benefit, and quit squandering them on special interest projects that benefit the few while the many are ignored. How about a candidate who knows how to balance their own checkbook, as well as the Country's!
So, get off their family's backs and start asking real questions, like, why is the highway construction fund and Social Security raided constantly by Congress and they never put the money back? Hey, if they were 15 year-old black kids in South Central they'd get shot for stealing pencils. I guess the media can whip on someone's kids until we beat their sponsors, and the politicians will keep stealing our money until we jail them for fraud. When will the weirdness end? This could be a long wait. I don't think I'll hold my breath, even if I become a pearl diver...besides, even if I find a pearl there are only swine to toss them to these days.
