Paying for Abortions
In a continuing series of cut-and-paste emails I receive, this one on the topic of federally funded abortions, specifically, whether or not we should spend millions to subsidize Planned Parenthood, I sent the following response:
I appreciate your concern about this issue. As your congressman, I would vote to stop
federal tax dollars from being used for purposes that are not mandated in the
Constitution. Using your hard-earned money to pay for abortions, stem cell research, or
other things that you could or would morally disagree with is a violation of your rights,
and needs to stop.
I personally believe that all levels of morality need-not be decided at the federal
level, as you don't need voters in Montana deciding for you how best to live your life,
and vice-versa. I believe the issue of abortion should be decided on a state-by-state
issue, where states are free to decide whether or not to end legalized abortions.
Spending more and more of our tax dollars every year, Congress has to learn when to say no. Funding abortions is something that is only going anger millions of people, and is not the business of the government.
