Our troops and Veterans
Our service men and women put their personal lives on hold at best, risk their lives often and give their lives for our freedom. As a nation, we are indebted to those who have sacrificed the most.
Our troops need our support. We must make sure that they have the very best equiptment available for their protection and the protection of our country. I believe in a strong defensive military. Our missile defense system should be updated continually. Our armaments need to be top knotch. Our troops need to be trained and at the ready for any threat to our borders and/or sovereignty.
Never should a troop be under the command of anyone other than a US commander. We do not answer to the UN or any other country.
We can not allow our current troops to suffer the same indignities that our Viet Nam vets suffered. Every troop returing home should get warm welcomes and heartfelt thanks for their service. They should also be assured of a comfortable, safe life at home when their tour is over.
Today's troops are coming home to a country torn by leaders who are more concerned about party lines than they are about the United States of America. Our troops are risking their lives in the name of "freedom" only to return home to find that our freedoms are being destroyed from within. Many of our elected officials in Congress right now were Viet Nam protesters; now they are destroying our rights on a daily basis as our troops are fighting for them.
Today's troops are coming home to a broken economy and a future of potential poverty. They are being betrayed by our elected officials and large corporations who are allowing foreigners to come into this country and work the jobs that our young people could be doing. These are not agricultural jobs; these illegals are working in construction, retail, and customer service positions across the country. Other jobs are being farmed out to other countries where wages are cheaper and benefits are non-existant.
These troops are coming home to VA hospitals facing budget cuts and closings due to a so-called "downturn in the economy" while non-citizens and drug addicts are given free healthcare on a demand basis. Our veterans deserve the best health care that we can possibly offer them without any worries of cost to themselves or their families. Our vets who served honorably should NEVER have to be concerned for their medical care.
Our veterans are coming home to an entry level housing shortage . Costs of new homes are out of reach and HUD subsidies are in short supply in our larger cities due to the influx of illegal immigrants who do nothing but drain the resources in our country.
As Americans, we must take care of our Armed Services Veterans. As your elected representative, I will sponsor and support legislation to make sure our vets have priority standing when they have needs.

Awesome post, Jaynee. I have made it a point in my campaign to talk about better benefits for Veterans, eliminating inequities in the Disabled Veterans Pension programs and putting an end to the Widows Tax. Our Veterans hospitals should be the best facilities in the world. If there is an area that I would fight for more spending, as opposed to less spending in virtually every other area, it is for our Veterans.
I also think a vet should have the option of going to any doctor or hospital they wish- again at taxpayer expense. It would be far cheaper than VA hospitals.
