McCain's pick of Vice Prez is attempt to woo disgruntled Hillaryites

I think, strategically speaking, that this was a brilliant move by McCain's campaign HQ.

First off, it severely dampens Obama's right to claim himself as the sole agent of progressive change. Sure McCain is a "wrinkly old white (haired) guy" but so is Joe Biden. Voting for Obama might be an embrace of the "dream" postulated by Martin Luther King, but voting for McCain/Palin still allows one to embrace the dream of gender equality that Hillary recently represented.

The glass ceiling will be broken this November. That is guaranteed. Voters will be left to decide if they want a black male president to break the ceiling or a white female vice -prez to shatter the ceiling and, conceivably, prepare to assume the presidency in 8 years. (Geraldine Ferraro deserves a mention)

Obama just lost the exclusive privilege to the "agent of change" moniker. Furthermore, all the disgruntled Hillary supporters who are swayed by their desire to bridge the gender gap (even if it is a "bridge to nowhere") have a strong incentive to vote Republican come November.

Maybe this "leveling of the playing field" will help the American public realize what Ron Paul has already conclusively stated - that Obama and McCain are essentially the same candidate with different window dressing. Here's hoping!

Could black voters be so shallow

to only vote for Obama because he's black (partially)?

I don't think shallow is the best description -- people are looking for a representative, someone who understands them and will consider their needs. Perhaps some women think that only a woman can really understand their experience, same for black voters, or white voters, men, etc.

I know some will probably not vote for Palin because she's a woman so the opposite seems just as likely.

Politicians can always change their promises, platforms, etc. but they can't change their gender, race.

Of course Ron Paul has a philosophy and a voting record that transcends all of that but that is rare.

ignorant is probably the

ignorant is probably the proper term

and blacks and women are just as susceptible to ignorance, as those white men that wont vote for either because of their gender and race.

There is no way female

There is no way female Hillary supporters could in good conscience vote for McCain because he has a female VP. Palin's views are polar opposites of Clintons and her supporters. If they crossed over for that reason alone it would show that they are only voting on gender and not the issues.

Could they be that shallow?

I thought the

answer was Tucker Carlson!

No I don't really mean that. It's very nice that he's speaking at the rally.

Turns out

she's a Ron Paul fan

The closer the Obama and McCain campaigns become the brighter Ron Paul shines.......

If Obama can't go on and on about change, what will he say, more troops in Afghanistan, less in Iraq in 5-10 years, free healthcare....

McCain is saying the same thing, maybe they differ on healthcare

ps -- you're referring to Germany I assume --- hope we fare better!

It worked so well for Mondale

Another wrinkly oldie takes a female running mate along for the slaughter.

Fascism vs. Communism. Which nation of the 20th Century tried to make that same choice? If memory serves, it didn't turn out so well....
