When my friends asked me, I simply reply with a smile
"So you mean this whole time I wasn't talking out of my ass?"
Indeed, Americans don't care until they see it on the news. Why should they?
So this is how I answer them
"I'll assume my bank IS next to fail, why? I'll tell you, I can afford to be wrong, and if I'm wrong, I can take the ridicule of being scared and paranoid if nothing happens. BUT, WHAT IF I AM RIGHT, can you afford even a week of worrying how much FDIC is covering you and when you'll see your money? In fact, the fact I've warned you right now, I promise I will laugh at you if your bank fails and you did nothing, because once I've warned you, you have no excuse not to act. I'll let you decide right now whether you can afford to be wrong, it's YOUR MONEY."
The best response I got was
"But I can't trust myself not to spend it away!"
The easy answer is :
"Better to waste your money yourself and have fun with it than worry where it's gone and have no control over it"

Wachovia is NEXT!!!
Who wants to guess on the next one to go?? Hmmmm!!!
Well that is about 4 banks that I know of that have gone down so far and they were calling for about 16 so we're about 1/4 of the way there....
Been telling my clients for the last 9 months this is what was coming. Can't wait to see most of them next season asking....
Even if I try to worry them.. MOST self employed people are TOO confident to beleive the 'conspiracies' and just blow them off as paranoia.
