I have a few thoughts that come immediately to mind while attending some of the Republican Party events here in this state, no matter which county (this weekend I attended events in Washoe and Douglas Counties, two of the heaviest populated counties in my Congressional District).

First of all, there is not much love for my opponent, the incumbent Congressman Dean Heller. He only received 35% of the vote in the GOP Primary two years ago, and it was a nasty, dirty campaign between him and two other well-known state figures that he won by just 421 votes. I was privately well-received by many in the county Central Committee who were supporters of Dean Heller's opponents two years ago, and they have been very receptive to what I have had to say. I have even had committee members that I don't even know offering to help host house parties and the like, with the only reason they are giving being that I am NOT Dean Heller.

Second, members of the party elite are being REAL NICE to me all of a sudden. People who all but cursed me out after the State Party Convention are now, if nothing else, appeasing me if not going out of their way to be nice to me. I'm not certain why the sudden change of heart, and of course I'm always having someone check for the knife in my back, but there it is. Granted, I have been very outgoing and friendly with these folks since entering the race, maybe it's just repaying kindness with kindness.

So, my impressions: Dean Heller is beatable, but he has $1.2 million in the bank...I don't. I need help, and I need it quickly to make any kind of run at Heller with the primary being August 12th. This is a one on one race, there are no other opponents in the primary to muddy the field. There is a clear choice between a Yes-man for the President and a Constitutional Conservative.
