Good question, Joe. Though it's a bit of a stretch to say that Pickens plans to "save our country".

Not just because I'm a fellow Texan, but when it comes to energy smarts, nobody beats T. Boone Pickens. He has spent a great deal of money on the Pampa wind farm; when it's fully online it will double America's wind energy megawattage.

The Pickens Plan is very wise: build wind farms from the TX panhandle to the Dakotas, an area that has some of the highest average annual wind speeds in the world. Move all that natural gas from the present use (electricity generation) to fueling vehicles.

Right here in San Antonio, there is a plant that builds the huge turbine blades for wind generators; these jobs pay about what folks make in the aerospace sector, and they're jobs with a future. Also, here at the Southwest Research Institute they are tweaking several processes for different energy companies, that converts natural gas directly to liquid automotive fuel without the current refining steps for crude oil.

The Pickens Plan can be a HUGE step in American energy independence for the mid-term (a couple of decades at least) and I hope McCain will glom onto the plan.
