April 9 (Bloomberg) -- Obaidah al-Masri, a senior al-Qaeda official involved in the July 7, 2005, London bombings, is believed to have died of natural causes in the past several months in Pakistan, a U.S. counterterrorism official said.

Al-Masri, who also helped plan the failed 2006 plot to blow up commercial airliners with liquid explosives, was active in recruiting and training operatives, said the official, who requested anonymity.

Media reports have said al-Masri died of hepatitis.
