For years, Kevin Jensen carried a pistol everywhere he went, tucked in a shoulder holster beneath his clothes.
In hot weather, the holster was almost unbearable. Pressed against his skin, the firearm was heavy and uncomfortable. Hiding the weapon made Kevin feel like a criminal.
Then one evening he stumbled across a site that urged gun owners to do something revolutionary: Carry your gun openly for the world to see as you go about your business.
In most states there's no law against that.

Check the laws carefully

Before you start carrying a gun in plain sight you probably should check your state and local laws to see if its legal or not. I'm guessing but I think in many states you will get arrested for doing that.

yes, and further - a CCW, in

yes, and further - a CCW, in Michigan for instance, changes your right to carry openly (uncovered). People think it is always better to have a CCW - not so.

In Michigan, everybody is legally allowed to carry so long as it is registered and belongs to the wearer (if a handgun), not concealed and you don't walk into a church, school, or other restricted area.

But try testing that theory in Wayne County -- and winding up against a Wayne County cop and prosecuter -- bad, bad, bad.

I don't have a CCW, and have had the "crap! I put on a coat - take it off before I run into a cop!" moment.

Gun talk

is always good talk. I always thought a license was something you obtained so you could legally do something that was illegal. I believe until the right to carry is exercised by everyone without the consent of law it will slowly slip into the balck hole where the rest of our Constitutional rights have gone. A-men and pass the ammunition.

Irrelevant

Yep, the old "ignore their laws and make them irrelevant" trick. I do that all the time. I consider it a high duty and prerequisite to being a true American. :)

Yep, definitely does. If you've ever been to the free areas of Wyoming, Montana, or northern Idaho, you've seen open carry in action. In some towns, you're looked at funny if you AREN'T carrying. I love Wyoming...

Of course, there aren't any numbers to prove one way or the other, but there ARE numbers for states/areas with a large percentage of concealed carry permit holders (which I personally don't believe in...permits, that is). Those areas have much lower violent crime rates.

Guns are a great civilizer.
