Why this movie???

Am I missing something? Why this movie? Does it hold special significance that I'm missing, or is it just because it is a fun entertaining movie?

This movie

is a great metaphor for our society. The men in the ward are all there, completely giving up their freedom and being dehumanized by the "evil" Nurse Ratched VOLUNTARILY. They are much like the prisoners caught in the Matrix - a prison for their minds. McMurphy is the savior that endeavors to free them. All they need to do is work up the courage to walk out the door and be human again.

One

of my all time favorites.. Nicholson ay his best.... one complaint, the scene was cut short.. I loved it when he started doing the play by play and got all the nut cases riled up.

wow

great analogy Trevor! I read the book last summer never would have thought to relate it to our system of half-wit collectivist dependency! I would say the movie snippet might be a better clip only because of it's familiarity.

ever get a feeling of deja vu?

One of my favorite movies. Now I understand that the Matrix includes insane asylums, or rather, like Nicholson, we only get results from congress by demanding our rights.
thumbs up.

Great movie, better book

In the book, McMurphy had red hair. THe movie also left out the whole metaphor/theme about Nurse Ratched's breasts. That was kind of important.

Life under Nurse Ratched!

And is it any coincidence that Jack Nicholson plays "R.P." McMurphy? Our favorite initials!

Note the appearance too of a then-unknown Danny DeVito as Martini.

Hmm ... martini ...

Sure..great movie

This is a great movie. I was in the stage play at the theatre downtown. I was NURSE RATCHED. Are you sure you dont' want to show OUR version of it? I have it on DVD....it's fun to watch live theatre productions...it's a bit different from the book and the movie. All three are different. Jazz.

I think that's a great idea.

I think that's a great idea. We're putting things through the community as a litmus test for what should be shown. Will you post your play on something like youtube and then submit it here?
