“I think it’s clear by now that the federal government needs to reclassify marijuana. People who need it should be able to get it – safely and easily,” says The Price Is Right and Power of 10 host Drew Carey in a new Reason.tv video examining medical marijuana and the war on drugs.

One of the most outrageous consequences of the war on drugs is the federal crackdown on medical marijuana, which is used by patients to help treat the effects of cancer, glaucoma, HIV-AIDS, chronic pain and nausea, and other severe symptoms associated with serious illnesses. Medical marijuana prescribed by a physician is legal in 12 states, yet federal agents are raiding state-approved dispensaries and preventing patients from having safe access to this drug.

In Episode 2 of Reason.tv's Drew Carey Project, Drew takes a look at patients who need and use medical marijuana in California, and how the federal government is making their lives even worse.

Episode 1 of Reason.tv's Drew Carey Project, Gridlock, is here.

The book "Cannabis: A

The book "Cannabis: A History" by Martin Booth discusses some of the politics leading up to this ridiculous marijuana business. You can search for Harry Anslinger or the UN Single Convention to learn more, but none of it will surprise you, I'm sure. The facts about marijuana were just about as important then as they are now.

In Canada, the regulations

In Canada, the regulations on the use and sale of medical weed are fairly ambiguous and ever changing it seems. There's obviously much pressure from Big Pharma because they surely don't want any competition cutting into their multi-billion dollar pain-relieving profits.

I was always curious why law enforcement places so much of their time, effort and resources into stamping out the growing and marketing of marijuana when the statistics show that it's only responsible for a fraction of serious crime in Canada, and likely the US and elsewhere as well. Some feel that authority doesn't want people smoking pot because it expands their minds and causes them to be a "free thinker". Seems they have no problem when it comes to prescribing psychotropic drugs to over a million kids in the US. Welcome to the New World Order.

Since hemp clothing will virtually last forever, it's safe to say the cotton cartels are doing their utmost to pressure government into putting the kibosh on this plant. Unlike cotton, hemp doesn't require the use of pesticides and herbicides to promote its growth, so there's another lobbyist group that's going to protest strongly against its production.

It's going to be a hard road ahead for all naturally sourced health products as the legalized drug companies, along with the FDA's help, take increasing control of this market.

Could a sheriff clear the path for the State law to prevail? My understanding is one could.
