had no health insurance for many years prior to 2008 - (all through college which 7 yrs or so and then for the first two year after) and as someone who has to provide insurance for himself - i can attest that these insurance companies are loathe to insure someone who has little to no "history." I hadnt been to a doctor in years (except for eye doctor and dentists) and they couldn't "find me" as it were to do a check. I filled out their questionnaires and what not - but they still were bitching for more information.
Finally, i settled on some cheap insurance with a high deductible just to have something. I reckon if i ever need to use it, i will be instantly dropped.
I argued that if i hadn't had need of a doctor for the last 10 years, i was someone they would want to insure. They were not sympathetic to my argument. All the major companies are information whores.
They will buy and sell it all - just name a price.
the one they are just dying to take is to start compiling (if they already haven't) your grocery lists. Either from your credit card records, or those nifty little "store cards" and "shopping club" cards that store all your purchase information on a magnetic strip.
It'll be like a driving record except better: Let's see you bought cheetos, and chocolate cheese cake in 2007. That's 3 heart attack points. Your premium should go up to cover our risk. Of course, no more heart attack points for 3 years and you're back to your regular rate.
OOPsy! Cheez whiz in May 2006. That's a yellow dye no. 5 Cancer point! Sorry. Just avoid these products till 2009 and your rates should be lowered!
We have a convenient direct deposit plan. This allows your employer to deposit your paycheck directly with us and then we give you what's leftover after accessing a small processing fee. You can also opt for our responsible health plan where we take whatever remaining balance you have and assess it towards future salty snack breakdown penalties!
Yes, they can buy an up-to-date list from the Department of Homeland Security.
