saw this from the link: "It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, it is very hard to understand why there is such a mess about having the Ten Commandments on display or "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the other 14% to Sit Down and SHUT UP!!!
If you agree, pass this on!"
I won't be passing this on...but I would like to say that I really don't care about religious themes in various government facilities or on money or in songs. A ten commandments on a wall, in the court, whatever, I care not. Now, when it comes to telling the other 14% to sit down and shut up -- that is a problem. I'd be willing to wager that if you put those 86% of "believers" in a room with one representative for every faith/faction/sect/whatever, they wouldn't agree on much of anything but that something needs to be done about the 14%. I'd be curious as to what their solution would be - and if it were as simple as letting them put in god we trust on money, or using the word god in the pledge of allegiance - I would gladly shut up. But this isnt how things work.
As an aside, most of the examples cited were the result of litigation - usually a non-believer suing to have something religiously themed removed from something government related. And they have won a few of the more notable cases. I dont know if that was all part of God's plan - but it seems the 86% need to hire better lawyers :)
I like the title.
