As we approach America's Independence day, I wanted to share with you a collection of quotes I have found and collected from around the internet throughout the years. Some are very old and some are very modern - but none resonate any more or less truth than the other. Every July 4th, America is reminded of the lives lost more than 200 years ago, so that we may enjoy our freedoms and personal liberties -- however, the other 364 days of the year are tarnished by an American mindset that we are free without accountability from our elected officials -- that must change. I wanted to share my source of motivation and inspiration so you can all reflect on what we are fighting for this July 4th.

Disclaimer -- these are from sources I found around the internet, I have never validated their credibility and frankly, I don't want to because I focus on the message more than the "who said it" aspect... Enjoy, and have a happy and safe Independence Day! (I'm pretty sure they are all right, or close enough)

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." >> Benjamin Franklin

"But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government." >> Andrew Jackson

"The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first." >> Thomas Jefferson

"The trade-off between freedom and security, so often proposed so seductively, very often leads to the loss of both." >> Christopher Hitchens

"The United States was supposed to have a limited government because the founders knew governmental power attracts swarms of crooks, demagogues and despots as surely as horse manure attracts swarms of horseflies." >> Rick Gaber

"We're dealing with the oldest political error: the belief that because everyone wants something, government should or must provide it. If the error is pervasive, the result is the total state. If it is completely uprooted, the result is the purely free society." >> Lew Rockwell

"The government is merely a servant -- merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn't. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them..." >> Mark Twain

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free." >> Sir Edward Gibbon

"One man with courage makes a majority." >> Andrew Jackson

"If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom; and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money that it values more, it will lose that too." >> Somerset Maugham

"It is not for glory or riches or honours that we fight, but only for liberty, which no good man will consent to lose but with his life." >> The Declaration of Arbroath

"For those looking for security, be forewarned that there's nothing more insecure than a political promise." >> Harry Browne

"The Romans used to say that courage is not the only virtue, but it's the only one that makes the other virtues possible." >> Benjamin Netanyahu

"A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government." >> Edward Abbey

"In matters of principle, stand like a rock." -- Thomas Jefferson
