Really?

While I do not believe in Government regulation, this is a touchy subject. If ISPs are allowed to block internet content, or slow connection speeds to websites that don't pay a "Toll", then the internet isn't truly free. If, say, you decide to download music from I-tunes, but ComCast has slowed or blocked the connection and tries to redirect you to their music download site, would you feel like you had freedom of choice, or would you feel your internet experience was being controlled? How many businesses would have been shot down if the ISPs had already attained this type of power? Would Break The Matrix even exist if ATT, Bellsouth, etc, had their way? These are just a few examples of the power they would wield if they are allowed to continue unrestrained. IMHO, the internet should be free to all, after, that is, you pay for your connection.
Government regulation? Wathdog groups? The ACLU? What is going to work? How are we to keep a free market on the internet? Please tell me, because otherwise one day we will no longer have the freedom of choice once the internet is locked down.

I don't trust this

I don't know too much about the details of this case but I don't believe the FCC is sincere in their desire to stop internet censorship. they may have won this case and it gave them good publicity but Ron Paul voted against net neutrality because it contained some regulation in it and we would ideally like to keep the internet free and unregulated and protected by the first amendment in the highest regard. I believe a private organization that provides internet service has a right to censor it because it is their private property however I get suspicious whenever the government decides what content can or can't be published on the internet. The FCC is not your friend. This is the same organization that decided CBS should be fined for showing Janet Jackson's Boob. They are censors at their core and I believe Net Neutrality was a power grab by them which will only lead to censorship of the internet. Think about that before you start publishing titles like "Historic Win for Net Neutrality"

I agree

The reason why Net Neutrality is even an issue is BECAUSE of the government. People who argue for government regulation of the internet to protect it say that we need it because too many ISPs have monopolies in many areas and therefore need to be forced to be neutral so as not to abuse their monopoly position.

They forget that most of those monopolies didn't come from a free market where different ISPs competed fairly and eventually one defeated the others. Most of their monopolies come from government subsides or specific grants for monopolies. Surely you've heard about the billions of dollars in subsides our government gave to have fiber optic networks installed across the US, which never were used to create said networks (except in a very limited fashion by Verizon)?

So I agree, no more government intervention in the ISP marketplace.
