I would have asked:

To what extent would an economic collapse effect your ability implement the presidents orders and to protect our soldiers who are in harms way?

As a counter-insurgent "expert", is it viable that our enemy's have a strategy of slowly bleeding our economy out?

Of what strategic importance is it to maintain a viable economy when fighting an threat as elusive as terrorism?

Does the collapse of the dollar pose a threat to the United States Military and the Security of our Nation as a whole?

What General Petraeus said at the end, in effect, was that he is just following orders. He is not concerned whether these orders are legitimate, legal or moral. So, this will be his argument if he is ever called to given an account of his actions? This argument has been nullified by the Nuremberg Courts in the trials of the Nazi leadership. Someone should tell him that he is in a very precarious position and may indeed be the designated fall guy.
