i hope electric cars will become more widespread now that the gasoline is so expensive

Battery operated cars make sense, at least for cars that aren't needed for long trips. As a second car for local trips around town they're a great idea.

I don't understand why GM destroyed their fleet of battery powered cars. And I don't understand why their new Volt will have batteries and a gas powered generator. Then you have to pay for an electric drive train plus a gas powered generator. Why not drop the generator and add another battery or two. Seems like dumb ideas to me. HMMM. Maybe that explains why GM is on the verge of bankruptcy.
