I have this wonderful book about one of my heroes since boyhood. With the exposure of the Lincoln Letters, and how Ron Paul suggested Lincoln wanted to buy the slaves freedom, which is correct, I would like to open this thread to share some of Lincolns best quotes and best statements. allthough Lincolns memoirs sound great, if you look deeper he said what was necessary to sustain the norths economy. The civil war had nothing to do with slavery, the theme is very poplar, and everything to do with agriculture, manufacturing and banking. Lincoln used the slavery theme as a rally point after everything else failed. The south economy was production, and yes slavery was a big part of it. But what hollywood has portraid is not accurate. The majority of workers were not mistreated and did want to leave the land after the emancipation proclimation.They were brought to america by the spainish in harsh horrible conditions, and some were mistreated. But overall it has been betrayed far from accurate.
Problem I have with Lincoln though is that he took away Habeus Corpus during the Civil War as the neocons are using what he did as an excuse to do the similar to US. I am much more of a George Washington fan (especially with his warning against the 'passionate attachment' and 'entangling alliances' in his Farewell Address which is linked at the bottom of http://astandforjustice.org).
Saw Shelly briefly on the Break the Matrix broadcast yesterday. What the heck was with the bad planning on the batteries for the guy shooting the video though...?!
