Type of Content: Article The majority of college graduates believe that the government should, in one way or another, be in control of our lives. How does this happen? It starts with college administrators and professors focusing on racism, bigotry or some other perceived or made up social problem on campus, to which they then decide there must be institutional solutions. Thought police are hired and payed big salaries, and students are encouraged to turn each other in for thought crimes. Of course it ends up, eventually, with some poor sap getting disciplined for the crime of reading a book (about how Irish Americans helped defeat the KKK in Indiana) while in the presence of other students. Lesson learned. it's okay to force someone to stop reading something. We need to take a serious look at how our intellectual elites are being trained in this country. I wonder how many parents who are paying for their son or daughter's college education are aware of exactly what it is they are paying for. Read »

Its good that the University has reversed itself. But things like this will continue to happen until the guilty parties are punished for their actions. In this case the Assistant, and the Chief Affirmative Action Officers should be fired for attempting to violate the rights of the student. Criminal and/ or civil charges should also be considered.
There are many people in positions of power who don't give a damn about the constitutional rights of others. And they are more than willing to use their positions to destroy the rights of others if it suits their own agenda. Those folks need a wake up call; subvert the rights of other people and you will suffer the consequences.

Definitely a much more in-depth analysis than my little blurb! Marx and Freud were very big when I was in college-- 20 years ago...
Hey Claire --
Enjoyed this! (Funny that they mention FIRE in the article, which was founded by my buddy Thor Halvorssen. They do phenomenal work.)
You might "enjoy" this too ...

(And this, Michelle Obama's horrific Princeton thesis -- http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=1182 ...)
And finally, check out www.indoctrinateu.com, which was funded through the MPI, on whose board I sit. You can find our trailer here: http://www.thempi.org/cgi-local/film.cgi?f=1. IU is a riot -- Evan uses this hilarious deadpan delivery as he catches the self-righteous academic establishment off their guard. (And he's now a card-carrying BTM community member by the way ...)
Cheers,

I must purchase that film. I have been wanting to for a while now; it looks like it would be really good.
I think group identity politics, if it isn't in fact a Marxist strategy, at the very least leads to collectivist thinking. The minute you stop thinking of yourself as an individual first, you're halfway gone. Add to that the victim mentality that says you can't be expected to take care of yourself, so you must rely on other people (which you needn't feel bad about because those other people are your oppressors)-- then you've got it so bad I wonder if there is any way back. I know "progressives" understand this, if not consciously, at least on a gut level, and will continue to use group identity to lure people away from individualism, personal responsibility and freedom.
The excerpts from Michelle Obama's essay are pretty dismal. I'm not sure if I really want to read the whole thing. If we are going to have her as a first lady, let us hope she has matured a bit since her days at Princeton!
