Type of Content: Article Bob Barr 2008 Statement on new Privacy Coalition A lot of media attention has been focused on our privacy or, more appropriately, the invasion of our privacy by the government. The recent law that allows the government to intercept our phone calls and emails without any legitimate probable cause is the most glaring example. Ultimately we lose some freedom with virtually every new law or government regulation, but this particular law, FISA, is the granddaddy of all invasions of our privacy. For the last several years Bob Barr has been fighting the government’s intrusion into our privacy at every step. There have been other organizations standing shoulder to shoulder with Bob. But, the recent focus on the invasion of our privacy has motivated a whole new group of concerned activists to join together in an effort to stop the government’s encroachment into our lives. Some of the names of the organizers of this new group, AccountabilityNowPAC, may be familiar to you. They come from a large variety of backgrounds and political beliefs joined in the common interest of protecting our privacy. If you get a chance please take a look at their web site to learn more about them. We welcome the leaders and supporters of Accountability Now PAC (http://www.accountabilitynowpac.com) to the fight to protect our freedom and liberties. Read »

I had serious serious misgivings about supporting him when i first heard the news - mostly because of his resume of anti-libertarianism. I wont go into details as most people here are aware of what i am talking about. But for the last couple of years or so he has been consistent in his pro liberty stances on various issues. (Note i said consistent, not that he is "libertarian" on any one of those positions). The way i see it, a bad Bob Barr is better than a Obama or McCain and libertarians have ballot access almost everywhere. A vote for him is on a par with a write in vote for Paul as far as practical effect (of them winning) but at least the vote for Barr will be counted and not discarded. My 1st 2nd and 3rd preference is and always has been for Dr Paul. But this isnt wish fulfillment - its politics. What is the best expenditure of my one vote? Write in Paul or vote Barr? Given that Dr Paul himself says writing him in isn't a wise plan, that kinda narrows things down.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. ~Friedrich Nietzsche~
i don't know much about bob barr aside from what i've seen of him on some youtube clips (particularly that penn and teller bullshit episode on patriot act http://breakthematrix.com/Constitution/Penn-and-Teller)
i may be alone on this one but it seems to me like the guy is at best very naive and gullible. he does one thing and then condemns his own actions. i'm not impressed.
