Japanese company Genepax presents its eco-friendly car that runs on nothing but water. The car has an energy generator that extracts hydrogen from water that is poured into the car's tank. The generator then releases electrons that produce electric power to run the car. Genepax, the company that invented the technology, aims to collaborate with Japanese manufacturers to mass produce it

Car Powered by AIR!

OK so there may be more that needs to be proven with the Water Car, but what about this car powered by AIR?

As a mechanical engineer I would say this is likely baloney. Most of these devices are said to extract hydrogen from water and then burn the hydrogen or run it through a fuel cell to produce energy. Lets do a simple thought experiment. You start with 1 gallon of water. You run it through the "hydrogen generator" and you separate the water into hydrogen and oxygen. Then you run the hydrogen and oxygen through a fuel cell which produces electricity and converts the hydrogen and oxygen back into water. So you started with 1 gallon of water and you ended up with 1 gallon water plus a net output of energy. In other words you got energy from nothing, and that violates the law of conservation of energy. That you cannot do.

The zinger is that you have to put more energy into the hydrogen generator than you get back out of the fuel cell.

My guess is that this will never go into a production vehicle. And it's not because the oil industry sabotaged it. It's because it doesn't work in the first place.

Are you saying these guys

Are you saying these guys are claiming that no material is lost in the transfer? They have released statistics on how far a gallon will take you until it is depleted.

There's a little more information here http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directory:Genepax_Co_Ltd

It's far from a sure bet but they are already talking about mass production and usage in homes rather than just R&D. For the earlier poster wondering why there is interest.. just for this reason, debate. There hasn't been a certain debunking or a certain analysis guaranteeing the practicality of this solution in my opinion. It's definitely too expensive right now that's all I know.

I, Garland, will knock you all down!

Same thing...

Some guy, in Florida, was on the news, about a year ago, claiming the same thing.

Apparently, extracting hydrogen from H20 -breaking the molecular bond- requires a lot of energy. Will be interesting to see if they've found an efficient way of doing so.

How

does a story like this get voted up 17 times?
Sorry folks but a car cannot run on water alone.. looks like this has been already debunked by someone else.. thanks

Great Comment at Treehugger

Great comment with Treehugger article: "This is what happens when our schools focus on teaching self esteem instead of science."

>>There Ain't No Such Thing As "Free" Energy

Try telling that to the Tesla groupies

Awesome! that generator makes electricity out of water??

If that generator electricity out of water, it can be used for house electrics as well, not sure if it would go cheaper than government supplied electricity, but in special cases like in remote places near a river definitely would mater

Sweet. Looking forward to a

Sweet. Looking forward to a sequel for 'Who Killed the Electric Car'. Definitely keeping an eye on this story as it progresses, or does not.

is this for real?

somehow i think there's more to this than just water.
