Type of Content: Article Where should a Ron Paul Supporter best place their vote? When Ron Paul suspended his 2008 Presidential Campaign he left hundreds of thousands of voters looking for a candidate to support. He has not endorsed any of the remaining candidates. He is not, to my knowledge, gaining “write-in” access in each jurisdiction. Therefore, libertarian thinking, freedom minded, supporters of liberty should vote for Bob Barr. Libertarians are hungry for a smaller government. Voting for either of the two major parties would not satisfy this hunger. Under the presumptive Republican Nominee’s presidency we would see a long-lasting presence in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East necessitating a bigger government to support the resulting ‘Industrial/Military Megaplex’. Under the presumptive Democratic Nominee’s presidency we would see exponential growth in the domestic departments of the government resulting in an ‘Environmental/Social Complex’ that would rival the former. Because of the influence political action committees have on our current bipartisan system a vote for either one of these two is a vote for bigger government. Now that a case has been made for a third-party candidate, who does a Ron Paul Supporter vote for? There are many other parties placing candidates on the ballot. However, according to a Wikipedia article, only three other parties have attained “the mathematical possibility of its nominee becoming President of the United States.” Those are The Libertarian Party (1971), The Constitution Party (1992) and The Green Party (1996). The Green Party emphasizes environmentalism, decentralized democracy, social justice, diversity, peace and nonviolence. A major problem for The Green Party has been declining participation since the 2000 General Election where Ralph Nader garnered more the 2 Million votes. In 2004 The Green Party Candidate David Cobb only received 128 Thousand votes. If this trend continues in the 2008 election The Green Party will hardly receive any votes at all. Many of The Green Party platform issues support expanding social and environmental programs in our government and in world government bodies like The United Nations. Again, small-government libertarians will find this hard to support. The Constitution Party is very like The Libertarian Party in their strong belief in federalism, limited government, and non-intervention. The Constitution Party could alienate many voters with this quote from the second paragraph of their party’s platform, “This great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” They are apparently not very accepting of religious freedom unless you subscribe to their particular brand of religion. Religious freedom being important to liberty minded voters makes this party a poor choice. That brings us to the most mature of the alternate parties, The Libertarian Party. The party that nominated Ron Paul as their candidate for President of the United States in 1988. Libertarians, want to see a world of liberty where each person is sovereign over their own life and no one is forced to sacrifice his or her values for the benefit of others. They only believe in government to the extent necessary to defend our country from attack and to preserve each individuals rights from harm or fraud by another. Under a Libertarian president, the government would shrink drastically and income taxes would become virtually non-existent. The preservation of our “Anchor of Liberty” The United States Constitution is paramount to The Libertarian Party. That is why liberty-minded, small-government, Ron Paul Supporters should campaign their hearts out for and vote for Bob Barr in The 2008 Presidential Election. See http://www.bobbarr2008.com .

I feel that our best way to get Ron Paul's values into the Executive Department is through Chuck Baldwin. I support the platform of the Libertarian Party, but I cannot with good conscience vote for Bob Barr.
I was a lifelong Democrat until Ron Paul's campaign. I registered Republican just long enough to vote for him in the Louisiana primary, and then I found my home in the Libertarian Party!
If you are nervous about Chuck Baldwin because of his party's platform, you should really watch this video.

Yes he was a neo-con years ago, however, since he claims he had his epiphany - he hasnt just said hes become libertarian, hes actually been doing the work too, and he has been working hard to correct those things he now sees as mistakes - unlike some Republicans who have come to criticize President Bush on the Iraq war only since the 2006 midterm election, Barr has been a constant critic of the president in the face of strident party loyalty - in fact his critisism of the administration played into his losing his seat in the house. The American Civil Liberties Union calls the former Republican a 'friend.' Last year, Barr joined Democrats trying to roll back Patriot Act provisions. Currently, he is lobbying for the Marijuana Policy Project. Ron Paul himself calls Mr. Barr a friend.
In 2004 he endorsed the Libertarian candidate and has been actively involved with Libertarian party leadership since 2006, and this year tried to convince Ron Paul to run on the LP ticket before running himself - If the freedom movement is to grow, you have to allow those of us who have "seen the light" work along with you.
If Barr isnt in the debates, who will argue against FISA and so many other issues we care about in the presidential dabates?
I say we give liberty a voice.
This subject has been on my mind alot lately. It's so hard to sort out and it's such a huge decision. I do think it's important for everyone who has unplugged themselves from the national media and has been doing their own research to come together and pick one person to vote for. Ron Paul had over 1 million votes during the primaries. It's sad because he seems to be more popular now than ever and he's not running for president anymore. I've heard alot of people say they are voting for John McCain mainly because of his service in the military or just because they don't like Obama and want to keep him out of office. These reasons aren't good enough for me because I've heard the message of Ron Paul and it's hard to settle for less. Therefore, I am going to write in Ron Paul. I don't care if he doesn't get write in privlages....he is the candidate that I want as president and I shouldn't have to choose between the lesser of two-four evils. LMW
I support Barr because he is getting our message out to the masses. If he does make the 10% threshold for the youtube/google debates millions of americans will get to hear some of our message.
If it is left up to McCain and Obama none of the things we deeply care about will be discussed this election. Barr will talk of real govt cuts, ending FISA, and states rights.
I think Paul gave us with a little inside info on Kudlow. At the rally in Minnesota either Dr. Paul will endorse Barr or let Barr give a speech. Dr. Paul understands it is about the message. Barr will carry big parts of it this election cycle.
there are some things that are very iffy about the constitution party platform as pointed out in the original post. I'm not Christian, so I for one would not be voting Constitution party either. Even if I was Christian, their party platform is one of exclusion, and that goes very much against our principals.
Voting this election season is a conundrum for many of us. Its a personal choice that we have to make for ourselves. There are sacrifices to be made no matter where we vote, its just a matter of figuring out which sacrifices you as an individual are comfortable making.
For those of you waiting on Ron Paul to make an endorsement, he said he might do it some time in September. But truthfully I urge you try make up your own mind. As awesome as RP is following his lead blindly is a real shame.
If you put a noose around the neck of a neo con and put him up on a stool, he'll kick the stool out from under himself because "well for better or for worse I'm already here."
As far as I know, writing in Ron Paul isn't even an option for me and who knows how many else. What is the point of writing in Ron Paul if its not going to achieve victory. What about Chuck Baldwin? He is representing the constitution party and supported Ron Paul when he was still a candidate.

Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength
I'm writing Ron Paul in. My vote is for the Revolution. I want the counters and fixers to know how many of us there are.
Regardless of whether her pursues write-in access on the ballots or not. That is, unless....Paul endorses someone. We'll have to wait and see in Sept.
I cannot support Barr because I simply don't trust him. He gives me the creeps.
for the patriot act? Also, for the iraq war? And just something about him I dont like, he is definitely not as passionate about what hes saying and easily flowing like Ron Paul. I was kind of surprised he got the nomination as well. On the other hand he has written some pretty good papers pro freedom. The candidates voting records/philosophies speak much louder than any great paper or speech though.
"free thinkers are dangerous, and beautiful"
I don't trust Barr either. And, as I stated in a post yesterday about who are you voting for, Barr also supports the Fair Tax, the bailout of Fannie and Freddie, and giving more oversight authority to the Federal Reserve.
i second that point. the guy is a flake at best. his words, now, do not in any way reflect his voting record. voted against the constitution and now is born again libertarian? bullcrap. he's an opportunist.
I don't trust him either.
First, can't vote because I live in a US territory. We're not eligible to vote in the General Election.
With that out of the way, I'd like to add that you've neglected to point out the flaws in the libertarian party. there are not many, except truthfully the voting record of their current Presidential candidate, and also some of the statements hes been making about the Gov bailing out Fannie May and Freddie Mac.

Neo Con in Libertarians clothing.
I know people can change, but in 10 years Bob Barr went from being a CIA goon, to being a federal prosecutor waging war on drugs, to being a republican congressman, and in two years hes become such a fierce libertarian that he deserves the party nomination and the support of freedom loving libertarian. in 2005 this guy was our sworn enemy and now hes supposed to be our saving grace?? I'm not buying that. Especially not from a guy who calls himself a libertarian with one breath and beseeches Congress to act on behalf of Corporate interests with the next. That dog wont hunt monsignor
I don't offer a feasible voting option. Since I'm not eligible to vote, I've not bothered to figure out where I'd cast my vote.
I discovered the libertarian party as a teenager, I am 100% in line with their policies, though I had strayed from the cause for a few years.
As a freedom lover I dislike party politics and propaganda, the original post in this thread is both.
