Type of Content: Article Livermore—Livermore Parks Director and small business owner Scott Kamena is the first to publicly announce that he has signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform, the group commissioned by Ronald Reagan in 1985. The pledge states: “I, Dr. Scott Kamena, pledge to the taxpayers of the State of California, that I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.” Other signers include Senator Tom McClintock and 15th District Assemblyman Guy Houston who will be termed out of office in 2008. (Source: Americans for Tax Reform) “If we let it, our government will try and tax everything that moves,” said Kamena. “In California, working families already pay some of the highest taxes in the nation. What Ronald Reagan said in the 80s is still true today—we face massive problems because spending is just too rampant, not because taxes are too low.” Dr. Scott Kamena is a twice-elected Parks Director in Livermore, the largest city in the 15th Assembly District. Scott currently owns and operates Murrietta Optometry which has helped over 20,000 patients in the region. The Kamenas have a long record of service to the community. Scott’s father, Marshall Kamena, is currently serving his fourth term as Mayor of Livermore.
