Kent Snyder, whom U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas credited as being a strong force in his latest presidential bid, has died. He was 49.

Snyder, a Kansas native, died from viral pneumonia June 26 in Arlington, Va., said Jesse Benton, a spokesman for Paul's presidential campaign.

Snyder also managed Paul's 1988 presidential campaign on the Libertarian ticket.

Paul, who's from Lake Jackson, said he didn't think his recent Republican campaign would have happened without Snyder.
